Ruddy Shelduck, Tadorna ferruginea, feeding and preening at Abberton Rservoir, Essex, in Southeast England. Ruddy Shelduck is a handsome bird which is quite widespread in parts of Asia but there some breeding populations in parts of Europe and North Africa. It is hard to know the origin of Ruddy Shelducks that are seen in UK with feral birds occurring and even breeding while there is the possibility of birds of truly wild origin making their way to Britain. This one was a nice sighting on a trip to Abberton Reservoir.
