The quality of these pistols remains exceptional. The 1908 VEST Pocket is my favorite of all .25 ACP caliber handguns. Bore condition I feel is critical as it impacts penetration an essential in any mouse gun. Nice review enjoyed it.

I put an aftermarket replacement barrel on one of my 1908s. On the original the lugs near the chamber, not to mention the bore, just seemed a little too worn. Shoots great with the replacement barrel and it even fixed a failure to feed problem it was having. The barrel was about $100 from some online store.

I Have that same pair. Inheritance from my step father born in 1904. As well as a slew of other weapons. From civil war up through world war 2. Since he was born a Lee and directly descended from Light Horse Harry Lee, not so long after the Civil War, he would use a calvary sword (southern made) to cut weeds out back. To him it was just an old tool. I now have that and it is not now "just a old tool"! A lot of history in American weapons. Too bad I have no one to hand them down to.

Ian Fleming , the creator of James Bond , owned a Colt .25 , 1908 . Serial # 257024 made in 1920, & issued to Fleming in WWII. It was a part of his estate . He took it to Jamaica yearly for protection ! As I cept researching the gun was listed as a Browning .25 , so the serial number that matches Colt production could have an exact matching serial number in FN production. Same gun exactly but FN serial numbers lost in the war ...

.25. ACP pocket pistols are enjoying renewed interest for two, major reasons. The first is for collector interest. Old .25 ACP semiauto pocket pistols are not high value artifacts. Yet collectors just want to own these. The second major reason is the implicit understanding that the .25 ACP tiny pistols are still useful for last-ditch, emergency personal protection despite the lack of stopping power. When weighted towards compactness, light weight, ease of use, and portability, the .25 ACP once again becomes valuable.

These are funny little guns. I acquired mine in Kansas in the 1970’s. The story was that it was found in an abandoned car that had bullet holes in it in the 1930’s. As in an outlaws getaway car. I once shot a bird out of the air with it. Total fluke!

...safety (switch) also serves as a slide 'hold open' feature. See the notch cut into the slide just forward of the safety itself? Push safety down past 'fire' position and engage slide notch. This allows for easier barrel removal/reinstall (field strip).
@mickmacstabletopreviews8466
3 жыл бұрын
Actually, the safety can be used to hold the slide action open, but the barrel cannot be rotated in this position on this 1920's Colt 1908. The barrel lugs will not line up with the frame notches. This procedure works for the Browning and even the Bauer 25, but not the Colt. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. I agree, at 13.15 oz unloaded, it might be a bit heavy compared to a pocket size Ruger LCP II .380 at 11.3 oz for example. However, the loaded weight of the modern tiny stainless steel Seecamp .32 is 13 oz. The loaded weight of the Colt is only 1 oz more at 14.

There should be a modernized version today with new ergonomics for true conceal carry civilian self defense. For the tiny size you could add a threaded barrel, hi res florescent paint to the sight, and a second extended 8 round magazine to add grip length for little extra cost.

I have two of these, one is in fabulous condition and the other is pretty rough. I bought the rough one because of its condition, lol, so I wouldn't mind shooting it or getting it scratched or whatever. The ugly one had the sights painted by the previous owner, apparently. The rear one is red and the front green. I don't know why, it doesn't really help.

Good question. That's something to be careful about since there are knock-offs out there. The original magazine is irregular two-tone, as I point out in my review and likely to be expensive. I've seen two-tone knock-off mags offered for $50, but an original mag can sell for $125. Check eBay and gun auction sites. They do come up from time-to-time, but be careful. As you might expect, a Colt 1908 Vest Pocket pistol is dependent on its condition and even its history, but in the end worth what someone might be willing to pay you. As such, values can really vary. I've seen some selling for as little as $200 but also for more than $1,000. Today, the current average price of a used Colt 1908 Vest Pocket is $870.29 according True Gun Values.com. Note that the 12 month average price was listed as $709.60, so there can be a lot of movement on value (which has actually gone up this year). Again, much will have to do with condition and local interest. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. Ever compare one of these to a Baby Browning, the Bauer, the Bernardelli and/or any of the others? I know they're all different sizes and thicknesses... but I just can't find any pictures or videos that compare them to show which one's are longer, shorter in height, thinner, lighter, etc... etc... I've heart the Colt is a little smaller than the Baby Browning... and that the Bauer is thicker than the Baby Browning (for sure)... but that's about all I've been able to find. There was also an italian copy that has a little longer slide/barrel but has a shorter grip/height and is thinner than the Baby Browning. The Styre Peiper /1908 Bayard, Spanish Protector, the Fritz Mann, The PSA/PSP (Precision Small Arms copies), the "Bronnie" .25acp, Spanish Buffalo, Astra Firecat, Libia Vest Pocket, Eibar Ruby .25, Ydeal Pocket, Urizar Continental (I think a Colt clone), The Ermua Looking Glass, NTOS Looking Glass, Gabalondo y CIA Buffalo, French Triomphe .25, Paramount Vest Pocket, French MAB pocket pistol, CZ Model Z and DUO in .25acp, Acha Atlas, Zulaica .25, Spanish "star" pistol, Spanish American "Regina", Unique 1908 "mouse" and The Francotte are just some of the very similar sized guns and "copies" of the Baby Browning and the Colt Vest Pocket... and they all look so much alike it's almost impossible to tell how big they are compared to all the others. Like most people couldn't tell the difference in size of a Glock 42 and a Glock 43 if they didn't have side by side pictures or at-least pictures of people holding them. I actually couldn't think of a couple of the more common models either and I'm sure there are many, many times more copies of the2 guns or other similar guns the same size. It's just insane to see how popular they were back then to have been copied by dozens of copies... but to then now be completely our of production. They are no less viable firearms than they were when they were popular. Even having newer, more powerful handguns does not make them obsolete. We still can't really make viable self defense firearms any smaller (except with like NAA revolvers and some very small single shot or two-shot firearms anyways). Other than that though, I think I know a TON of people that would probably buy and carry a gun everyday if they knew of these. Anytime I show new gun owners the smaller firearms like these, their eyes light up and they're happy to see that firearms don't have to be big and bulky.

@mickmacstabletopreviews8466

Wow, very nice! According to TrueGun Values, today a COLT 1908 VEST POCKET pistol is currently worth an average price of $517.83. The 12 month average price is $570.80. These are average sales values, so a gold plated model would be worth considerably more depending on its condition. By the way, the value of a Colt 1908 Vest Pocket pistol has actually fallen ($146.81) dollars over the past 12 months. That's a real dip in value! I'm not sure why, but it's something to keep in mind. Now I was able to find a couple of nickel plated models that very recently sold for $650 and $931. Gold plated would certainly go for more. The point is, there is a wide range of value with these guns especially when it comes to collectors. The gun will sell for what the buyer thinks it's worth to them. Again, assuming your gun is in pristine condition with its original box and paperwork, $1,500 might be possible Thanks for watching and thanks for the positive comment. I wish some gun company would release the kit car versions of this, the 1903 .32, and 1908 .380. Sure they can be cheap polymer knockoffs, but i just want the set to have fun with at the range without paying thousands for the reproductions or copycats that function the same but look completely different. Sorry, but I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on that. Just looking at one FBI report of number of law enforcement officers killed by .25 caliber rounds between 2004 and 2013 there were 5 killed compared to 92 deaths by the much more common 9mm round and 12 were killed by .22 rounds during the same period.
