FWIW, from Wikipedia: "Colt Government Mk. IV Series 70 (1970-1983): Introduced the accurized Collet Barrel Bushing. Commander sized pistols retained the solid bushing. Colt Government Mk. IV Series 80 (1983-present): Introduced an internal firing pin safety and a new half-cock notch on the sear; pulling the trigger on these models while at half-cock will cause the hammer to drop. Models after 1988 returned to the solid barrel bushing due to concerns about breakages. Colt 1991 Series (1991-2001 ORM; 2001-present NRM): A hybrid of the M1911A1 military model redesigned to use the slide of the Mk. IV Model 80; these models aimed at providing a more "mil-spec" pistol to be sold at a lower price point than Colt's other 1911 models in order to compete with imported pistols from manufacturers such as Springfield Armory and Norinco. The 1991-2001 model used a large "M1991-A1" rollmark engraved on the slide. The 2001 model introduced a new "Colts Government Model" rollmark engraving. The 1991 series incorporates full sized blued and stainless models in either .45 ACP or .38 Super, as well as blued and stainless Commander models in .45 ACP."

Thanks for your comment/question. The guide rod on the left is a standard GI style that 1911s originally all had, and it goes with the series 70. The full length guide rod over toward the right came on my series 80, but I have since replaced it with a standard GI, making disassembly much easier. Yes, the full-length guide rod on a commander is shorter than a full-length government (4.25in vs 5in barrel). What era commander is this with 3 recoil springs? I haven't seen such a system...

Great video!!! I subbed! Just one question. Is there a series 70 1911 that has all of the features of the series 80 EXCEPT without the firing pin safety system?

You can get a fantastic trigger pull out of a series 80 if you trim and grind the little "finger" off of the firing pin safety plunger lever (the part in the frame) and removing the plunger and spring from the slide... now your back to a series 70

I think the answer is yes, because the norinco 1911A1 (the one I own) don´t have the firing pin safety and the ejection port is exactly as the series 80, my bushing is solid bushing without the fingers. the sights are the originals S70. Long time with my gun, daily use no accidents or negligent discharge. any way thanks for the video jancguns!!!! great explanation!!!

Colt 1911 Series 70 FTW In my professional opinion, working with in in the USAF 786th Security Forces it was sweet all I wanted was CMC Power mag's and with 1k plus rounds thru her with factory ammo not but one hiccup (1 FTE) this Series 70 1911A1 Colt was used by my grandfather used when he fought in Korea and WWII, he also worked on the SR-71 Blackbird with Kelly Johnson, and Flew MANY test flights with Gary Powers, so when I became a 2ndLt. you can imagine the talk in the officers mess!

I had a 1944 Rand, and it had the bushing you showed to be a series 80. I wonder if it was replaced. I can't express how much I regret selling that gun.

I know this comment is old, and you may have found out by now, but the original 1911 and 1911a1 used in WW1, WW2 etc had the solid barrel bushing like the series 80. Only the series 70 had the collet bushing, and then they stopped making pistols with that and went back to the original because it wasn’t as durable as the original design and didn’t improve accuracy enough to be worth it.

Are the standard solid bushings compatible with series 80 barrels?

People are such trigger snobs. To be perfectly honest, most people can't actually shoot well enough to take advantage of the supposed differences between a series 70 over a series 80. I can't tell the difference between the two. I shoot both equally well. Most people's shooting fundamentals suck and they're skill doesn't match the equipment they purchased. They don't practice or buy nearly enough ammo and shoot it to become great pistol shooters. They have these expensive guns and still can't hit a damned thing. I do think the series 80 is a safer design though. This is just my opinion. Buy and carry whatever you like. If you're looking for a gun with parts simplicity and reliability, buy a Glock and learn how to shoot it well. Only 34 parts for simplicity's sake versus a 1911's 50 plus, depending on whichever one you have. Don't get butt hurt and tear try to tear my head off. This is just an opinion. Spend your money on whatever you want. It is your money after all. Just practice enough and be a good enough marksman to avoid accidentally hitting someone's innocent grandma and her many cats.

I know the video is old and the guy will probably never upload again seeing as he hasn’t in 4 years, but I must ask what info is bad? I’m not the most knowledgeable but I found no fault with the video.
