Inherited a ' 76 years ago. Took daughter in law to indoor range, and let her punch a box and she really dug it. No kick issues at all, easily accurate. Slight holster wear with mine too and (to me) adds to its charm. Great weapon. Thanks for your post.

Very nice trooper sir. Glad you found it. Colt calls that a fenced cylinder. Not like smith where they used to counter bore each chamber. The python doesn’t have that. Great video as always. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for the shooting video with that bad boy !

Is the Colt 357 magnum trooper MKIII 4 inch a potential gun fot day to day cary?

I carried one every day for 10 years, then off and on for another 5 years (along with a S&W Model 28) As a uniformed police officer. Pretty heavy for EDC for an armed civilian IMO, too large to conceal except under heavy clothes.

I carried this exact revolver (but Nickle plated) for 15 years as my primary uniform duty revolver. I later added a S&W Model 28 as a backup, another great revolver. Until making the transition to a 9mm semi-auto handgun in 1988. The Colt was still my backup as any officer hired prior to December, 1991 could still have the option to carry a revolver if they were qualified with it. in 1990 I went into plainclothes duty and the Colt was retired. These are great, sturdy and reliable revolvers that never failed me in cold, snowy, icy winters and hot, humid summers. They are not as finely made, fitted and finished as the earlier (pre-1969) Colts, but they made fantastic police duty handguns. And usually at a lower cost that equivalent S&W revolvers. Initially, I didn't have the money to buy another gun for off duty (we had to buy our own duty handguns and leather gear and I was a broke rookie) so I carried the MKIII off duty in a Safariland "upside down" shoulder holster for a while. I don't recommend it for that purpose. 😏 I still have the revolver, the box, papers and the receipt. $154 in 1973. I still shoot it occasionally along with the other handguns I carried. They are not for sale.

So briefly how would you compared the trooper mk iii to the python in terms of fit and finish, internal mechanism, strength etc... I want a nice L frame and the mk iii may be the direction that i take... I am not interested in the newer smiths. Thanks for the time and energy that you put into your videos... This is my favorite gun channel and i subscribe to a good many

Owned one with a 4inch barrel, beautifully blues steel. Bought it with pearl grips on it. Looked awesome but the grips left a lot to be desired. Far to smooth, after a while shooting a blister would appear at the base of my thumb.

Hi David, I got a 4" with silver colt 'buttons' on the grips from my father's estate in 1992. (Magnificent condition). Does the silver indicate perhaps the year of manufacture? The se. no. is:J16763 X. Very informative videos. Thanks Pieter (South Africa)

The Mark III is a very nice gun, certainly not as nice though as the original Trooper that had Python internals in a Python frame. The internal parts on the Mark III were all MIM, with no hand fitting at all. Take the grips off the early Trooper, and you'll see the complete difference between it and the Mark III. Your 6" Mark III has the silver medallions, which are much more rare than the gold ones.

J R Deckard They hold timing better than the originals and they hold their timing better than the Python. Don’t take my word for it just ask anybody who is owned and shot both

I don't think Colt used MIM on these. MIM was developed in the 70's but it's not until the 90's when it came to prominence and as a method in firearms industry. The technology just wasn't quite there when the Trooper was offered.
