Owned a Springfield loaded target 9mm. Would not run. Bought the colt and have not a had a single failure . To date I am at right around 500 rounds and again ,not a single issue. I have many 1911s but at each level I’d rather have the colt. I have Garrison’s in .45 and I love it but when compared to my colt competition I still prefer the colt. Thanks for a great review and sharing. You are correct they are both great companies producing excellent products.

The Colt is a 70's series .....inherently a better trigger system than the 80 series pistols which is what the Springfield is a copy of.
@jamesnelson7415
3 күн бұрын
Dead wrong - the Colt does have the original trigger system (non-Series 80) without the firing pin block and the associated tube Goldberg mechanism of the Series 80, but Springfield has NEVER built a 1911 with the Series 80 style trigger/firing pin block system, always using the original firing system, same as a Colt Series 70. The Springfield differs from the Colt in having a titanium firing pin which improves its drop safety characteristics without a firing pin block.

Hello. I don’t like the beavertail on a Colt (too low for hand placement). Is there any way to replace with a quality high ride beavertail (like the Springfield Emiasary)? Is it possible? Can you please recommend one? Thank you very much.

Not sure. but I would prob just sell it and get a new 1911 with a higher beaver tail. save a lot of trouble
@jamesnelson7415

Any good gunsmith can replace the grip safety of any 1911 with another one having any design of beaver tail you want. It will require properly fitting it to the frame, though, not a drop in fit.

I've owned many 1911s over the years, with build dates from 1912 to the present.ost have been Colts, but many have been Springfields, plus a few other brands. I am now down to three Colts and one Springfield. All are excellent firearms - I can't say that for a few others I have had. Both are good choices. BTW, the biggest weak link in the Springfield is the cast slide stop, they are prone to breaking. You can see a faint casting line in them, best to replace it with a forged part from Wilson, Ed Brown, etc. Best done before it breaks (usually while shooting, and (at minimum) your slide, barrel, etc go flying down range. Otherwise, both companies make excellent 1911s.

I'm right handed. Ambi safety isn't a selling point to me. Ever since having the front fiber optic fall completely out on me, I prefer a nice white dot up front an plain black notch on the back end. It works for me. Great video. TY

The Colt is a ''Competition.'' Therefore, it has no rail for accessories such as light. Anyway, the difference between these guns is so minute that a regular gun owner will not experience any difference. The florescent front sight gives the colt an advantage in fast engagement, something you can see from the video when you compare them side by side, the first shot from the colt comes way before the Springfield. At the end, it is more of a personal ''like'' if you want. I have several 1911's and one from Colt Custom shop, this gun has a way better trigger than anything I have shot so far out of the box. But it has target sights so I don't carry this gun much, only when I like to be ''posh'' my carry gun is a Series 80-Colt Competition in .38 Super. 9+1

Since the Springfield has a rail, I'd lean towards it. And since it'll be almost night time capable, I'd get a night appropriate front sight. Good comparison btw!

Hey Smash! In observation of your video, it looks like you shoot the Colt better. Now I wasn't there, it just looked smoother to me. The muzzle flip and recoil pulse seemed smoother. I own a Garrison in 45. It shoots well for me. There have been a lot of fine detailed discussions about fit and finish that is really picky. So The Pony vs. Cross Cannons in this show down of both fine production pistols. What is the appx round count? Any teething issues? To me, 9mm is soft shooting on almost any platform. In reviewing and reading a lot, more problems seem to be encountered with 9mm on this platform. Keep Both! Don't get rid of either one.
