Excellent holistic video on the overall Columbia experience. I have a daughter currently attending Columbia and I would have to say that based on all she's shared your assessment here is for the most part spot-on. The only thing I would slightly challenge is the notion that a lack of space makes it difficult for students to find spaces in the Library or dining halls etc. My daughter may have been extra fortunate but she's never had challenges with lines or finding a table in the dining halls or spaces in the Library. There are maybe 11 or so dining halls ( and one at Barnard available to Columbia students ) and numerous libraries ( somewhere around 20 ) so it may be that my daughter tends to gravitate to the least popular ones. Otherwise, everything you said was spot-on

The School of General Study doesn’t have graduate programs, does it? Anyone?

I am currently doing my A. A in Chemistry at my local community college, and I just got a letter from Columbia's School of General Studies inviting me to apply for the Spring semester. I have a 4.0 GPA, and I am a Phi Theta Kappa member. I am working on my application, which I should submit by August 1st, and I am freaking out because I did not graduate from high school in the USA, and I have also been working full time while studying, so I don't have any extracurricular activities to show. Any tips?

Don’t stress about the extracurricular for the GS. They don’t really care about it ‘cause you didn’t graduate from an American HS. Your essay should stand out though.

Every student is going to be different. Don't worry about what you don't have. Focus on what you do have, and really try to sell that to the best of your ability. Columbia's General Studies program is a terrific opportunity.

Do not worry about not having a High School degree from the USA. GS, like all of Columbia, is about diversity. Your GPA and accomplishments matter most. Have excellent references and an external interest and you will be accepted.

How did Columbia University become so woke, given the circulated video of med students at Columbia making an oath toward discriminatory DEI?

Columbia has a decades-long ( going back at least to the 1960's ) history of valuing activism, and diversity.

I never had problems finding space at Columbia. Now that the Manhattanville campus is open, there is more space than ever in Morningside Heights Also, GS is NOT just for adult students, but any student in a joint program like JTS, or until recently Juilliard. Furthermore, GS may have a higher admission rate, but the quality of applicant is significantly above that of CC, SEAS or Barnad. Hollywood celebs, published authors, entrepreneurs, composers, Broadway dancers, olympic medalist winners and even Miss Universe have all been highly accomplished GS students. As for overall acceptance rate, Columbia is 3.8%, second only to Harvard. Unfortunately Columbia is the most expensive school in the Ivy League, if not the entire country.
