Glad someone has done a decent video on them. I had 5 in a 29 and they breed like crazy. Ended up with like 30 in the 29. The are definitely semi-aggressive. They work out a pecking order and are okay. I’d say a 29 is okay for them, but bigger is better. They like to move around when provided with the space. I moved a group to my 75 and they are loving life.

I was getting worried about tank size when I watched this video. I have a school of 7 in a 29 gallon tank and one of them is a huge bully. No breeding or at least not successfully for now. They are well fed. There are also a few shrimp, 2 snails and one large, well established pleco in the same tank and he hasn't accidentally eaten them. I am contemplating taking the nippy bully one out of the tank. It's one of the original 4 I had bought and only 2 survived a case of ich in the tank. I was so happy to successfully treat and get them through it, now I am worried it will bully the smaller one it its school too much. It's an interesting dynamic to watch as they all seem to try and hide and get away from him frequently. Maybe he's just lonely and misunderstood :D

@@LiteralKatreally hoping a 55 gallon will be decent. I have nothing else in there except a small school of serpaes and two grown angels. I hope they aren’t too aggressive toward my Cory cats.

Water requirements: Wet. Breeding requirements: Wet. Temperatures requirements: Wet. Food: Yes please! I've been keeping them for 20+ years in a 29 tall with no heater. One of the fish I own is a descendant of fish I bought 20+ years ago. The only time I've had trouble was when I lived in house that had terrible water quality for a couple of years (rusty pipes). I have since moved, and now I have a new baby again, with no effort on my behalf. They're just that easy.

Bought 10 of these a week ago. And my initial thought was that they are gonna be like all these not that small tetras I had before - Bleeding Heart, Diamond tetras - not too active, pretty shy and bulky. But I was really surprised how schooling they are. One of my favorite tetras now

Just bought ten an hour ago for $3.99 each! The video does not do it justice in the color department. In person in a planted tank like mine these things are spectacular. I can't think of a better looking fish for $3.99.

I have a large shoal of Columbians and I've noticed a few of them are showing multiple black blotches. It's not a peppering like ich, some are quite large as if they have paint splats on them. They are about two years old and had no issues until now. My water parameters are perfect including KH and phosphates. Any ideas? Thank you. Tank size is 4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft.

Mine had that issue - I think it’s a reaction to some sort of internal parasite. It got better after I treated the tank with praziquantel.

Columbia is in the US, this fish are actually from Colombia and their name being (Hyphessobrycon columbianus) doesn’t mean they’re from Columbia. Colombian tetras it is. That name (Columbia) just spreads miss information. Thx

The more proper spelling is Colombian tetra, as in the country Colombia in South America. That's where they originate from.
