Agree. I lived in this town and there were never any tables outside that shop so to me them sitting there looks kind of forced. In fact I've heard from others it doesn't look natural them sitting there to them. My favorite part of this is when Furio (the only actual Italian in the group) points out that Columbus was northern Italian, and that north and south Italy have a pretty similar dynamic to the U.S. northeast and southeast (south sees north as elitist and snobby, north sees south as backwoods hicks). That's the whole joke of the situation: every one of the wiseguys in the group is almost by definition southern Italian or Sicilian by extraction, and Columbus would have seen them as illiterate bumpkins.
@nikmede

This scene needs to be preserved for all of eternity. - A bunch of Italians, claiming how proud they are to be Italian, not knowing the history of Italy - Criticising Native Americans for sitting on their ass all day, whilst sitting on their ass in the middle of a work day - Telling Furio to relax when he’s complaining about centuries of class discrimination, whilst they complain about a few protestors Such good writing.

Well ever since the Natives had proper voice in this country, there have been criticisms of Columbus. The episode was a satire of Italians and their pride in Columbus, with that conflicting with the natives resentment for the bastard. People deem this to be the worst episode but, I loved it as to me it was a period piece of what direction this nation was going in terms of what heritage means to Americans and what it means to other Americans.

Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History” was published in 1980, it’s the same book that AJ reads from later in this episode. It’s a very common assigned reading in high school and college and has been for quite a while, though the book has its criticisms. I feel like the anti-Columbus sentiments have been growing a lot in the last 10 - 15 years, accelerating even, but this has been in the process for decades.

@@notsureiL No. But gangsters, who happen to be italian american, did alot to ruin my life, and the lives of others I know. For real, not a HBO show. For real.

No one gives a single fuck about Colombo in Italy, an actual Italian has way other things to be proud. Hes an historical figure and that's it. Its just a thing for these "italians" in the US. I bet most of them dont even know who Amerigo Vespucci is.

This is a wild tangent, but what I like about this series is after having watched it once a long time ago, it's fun to try and remember the demise of each character in this scene.

@@harryquinn1315 judging by the comments on any Sopranos clip, 90% of the show went over peoples’ heads…this is obviously satire making fun of these lecherous morons
