really good employment of German techno music at 10:20. A good techno producer is like a combat bard, they give the Panzergrenadiers +1 Haste and +1 to Hit

Without going too much into detail, I would recommend to consider three doctrinally embedded subjects when assessing the German forces in the past and nowadays. 1. Auftragstaktik: mission command, pivotal to operate in a decentralised setting 2. Führerheer: military leaders are trained two levels above their command assignments in orderto enable them to contribute with their operational plans seamingless into higher echolons, and to take command in case a commanding officer above their assignment has been taken out 3. A broad training of infantry and anti tank weapons at all levels with live fire expertise, enabling grunts and officers regardless of their cap badge to be utilised in a security or anti tank capacity once enemy forces have broken through. I appreciate your approach to tje subject in your videos. Keep it up.

I'm only halfway through the video but had to comment. Holy cow, man, this video is amazing! Your combination of tactics explanations, videography, and realities of warfare are interesting and engaging. Seeing the pics of the civilians was sobering and a good reminder of what war really does. Btw, loved the music and video pause here with the rpg! kzitem.info/news/bejne/rouQ1omAb6yDqm0

Really useful observation about scenario design. CM is not made for a mass market or the COD generation. Scenarios are made by the community for all sorts of reasons and to test, examine or demonstrate a variety of things so it was really good to include the insight from the designer that this scenario is designed to illustrate the trade-off between minimizing risk by doing the whole village and taking on some of that risk to your own forces by being restrained - on Herrick 5 we often said "War on the cheap is called "loosing" ". This series of videos has been really good, thanks for sharing.

Absolutely, I think my favourite parts of CM are the ability to learn by doing and the ability to experiment in a sandbox environment.

Love your videos. I find the German 6-man squads to be very weak in-game, requiring you to bring up their AFV's for support which are also weak. Against a poorly trained and equipped opponent as in the video they do okay but against a peer foe they have trouble.

Certainly, there was this great 80's marketing style video I saw which sold the idea, showing the cooperation required between the squad and vehicle. But I'm sure the book had a whole chapter on squad sizes and pros/cons to a vehicle as a fighting element of the unit or just its armoured transport.

Halte! Hammerzeit got mentioned as a scenario with a tougher opposition which I might try, then part of the little Bundeswehr intro was a German on German pre deployment quick battle I gave myself, the Gebirgsjäger standing in for Syrians with Fuchs for BTR's and Milan for soviet ATGMs, so still not much better equipped or challenging.

Love your content. Only complaint is they arent long enough. Lol jk. Have you considered doing a seriea with the graviteam tactics series. Similar to this?

I've seen some of the gameplay for Graviteam Tactics, it really does look nice, so would be tempted to give it a try. Combat Mission definitely keeps me occupied though. With the sheer amount of content, both official and community-made its always felt like I'm just about scratching the surface :)

There is that little known combat mission Afghanistan that only exist on BattleFront's web site. CM is the most comprehensive sim you lose personnel sometimes they will not engage and flee. Machinery misses stuff happens it gets messy..

Yeah CM is certainly a game I've always come back to. Its all the same base game but has a funny habit of surprising me with a subtle detail that will often get across a problem/dilemma in each era/period or just a timeless problem.

That had been one of my first thought when I set out making these, a sort of peer to peer big war, followed by the asymmetric small war then a return to big war, but with the Black Sea game's characteristic jump in technology. That got shook up by some great reads though. There was a fantastic article on War on the Rocks for example that totally flipped my perspective on maneuverer warfare being superior to attrition with a bit more nuance to the subject. No idea how to articulate that yet :D warontherocks.com/2023/09/biting-off-what-it-can-chew-ukraine-understands-its-attritional-context/
