When I was in college, I worked summers in a defense factory. Another fellow working there was a little slow mentally. A lot of people mocked Richard like the villagers and the German soldiers did in this video with the general. I wasn't raised that way and tried to be kind to him. One day there was a mishap and Richard made a super human effort to keep a shifted cargo from taking my foot off, while I yelled my head off for help. It took 4 men to move what Richard held back to keep me from being badly injured. He not only saved my foot but also my track scholarship. The lesson I learned that day is what I believe the writers tried to convey through Sgt. Saunders. Simply that it pays to be kind.

S2E18 - The Général and the Sergeant. Another noble trait that comes out regarding Sgt. Saunders (as portrayed by Vic Morrow) showing respect where respect is due. Some may argue that it was not deserved. Look at Lt. Hanley (Rick Jason)at one point he was almost ashamed and angered that Sgt. Saunders was so defferent to the Général (John Dehner). Then look how the German soldiers treated him, laughing in his face. You have those sides and then Sgt. Saunders. Sgt.Saunders saw what the Général could do and did not write him off just because of his age. Sgt. Saunders is above all observant. True, his misinformation regarding that manoir (château - they call every big house a château in France) cost them one man's life and another wounded. Taken as a whole however, between the Germans driving away from the château and the Général showing the tunnel, they came out on top. Even Lt. Hanley saluted the Général in the last scène. The underlying thème is respect, not just for the persons past (which should count) but for what they do today. The général did more for Sgt. Saunders squad BECAUSE Sgt. Saunders showed him respect from the beginning. This would appear as another lesson in life as given by Sgt. Saunders; A truly épic épisode and Vic Morrow's honestly respectful attitude shows the authenticity of Vic Morrows portrayal and gives an even stronger feel of his persona. Un très grand merci pour le téléchargement.

reminds me of that quote from the movie Patton. "The only way for a warrior to die is with the last bullet fired in the last battle of the war."

Sometimes, the young forget that even though old, the elders can contribute some knowledge and wisdom which is still useful. Not everything is as it seems.

My Dad when he got to North Africa in end of February '43. Even as a First Lt. out ranked his Sergeant's. He said you learn fast to listen to them because they went through WW I. Been there done that!!.. In combat you listen to the vets! They lived through it once before..

My Dad was an E-6 tech seargent in the Signal Corps. Before that he trained with the original 10 Mtn. He was in 4 ETOs but never talked about it, except for a couple funny stories. My guess is he was detatched to different armies that came in behind the Airborne in those 4 different theaters of ops. Band of Brothers gave me an idea of what he may have seen and done. Growing up we spent a lot of time hiking and camping, away from civilization. I guess the wreckage, sights and smells of European war haunted him all his life. He was definately part of the greatest generation. Sounds like your dad was too.
