I will always remember him from the Wild Wild west show and a real mean guy on the War Wagon. Great movie with John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Robert Walker, and Bruce Dern.

Awesome: at 1:05 or so, the pilot of the Piper has a row of grenades along his window. I had friends in Vietnam who did the same thing, except they'd use pickle jars... pull the pin, insert armed grenade into pickle jar, drop on enemy. Without the jar, the grenade will go off too early unless you are VERY low.

@Legion 57 it holds the handle closed until the jar breaks, replaces the pin

The one and only Keenan Wynn! He contributed something special to everything he ever appeared in, even cartoon voice overs and animated programs. He was the fearsome Winter Warlock in the Rankin Bass animated Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, which is something that has been viewed by millions of people around the world over the past 50 plus years.

Haha a Piper with a wheel instead of a stick as control. Funny, really. The only piper that had a wheel on our flight school is the piper seminole :D

THE FLYING MACHINE was done in 1966 one year after the blockbuster THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE had been filmed with Henry Fonda, I wonder if the start sequence from the movie had infuenced this episode. Seems to me the series tried to work in, in a very bright way, people had criticised at those scenes with Fonda pretending to fly in one of those reconnaissance air planes.

Having a 2nd Lt. like Hanley as your CO is more dangerous than your enemies. He's always getting his guys sent on "suicide" missions. Like in "Hills are for Heroes" Hanley will get his men killed rather than speak up to "the brass". Saunders at least cares deeply about his men and thinks things through. Hanley probably dreams about being a General at the expense of his men's blood...

As some other fellows have correctly written this is not the ordinary Infantry they know :) Observation 2) They are also right in mentioning in the majority of episodes the Germans are running into the American rifle fire like Lemmings towards a cliff. Also I like to mention as someone speaking German fluently, the skill of most actors talking German on this show is a very mixed bag.

@ 3:30 I think I would have asked Keenan Wynn if he'd ever had to be a real soldier for a living. First rule of low-level air recon - never get knowingly get close enough for the enemy to pot-shoot you with small arms, especially when you have no armor, speed, maneuverability, horsepower or offensive firepower.

Just out of curiosity, why do you do your clips in 15 min. increments, instead of the entire show?
@garypulliam3740

KZitem will remove it if it's all at once because it's copyrighted material. Putting the show up in increments is like posting highlights of a football game or clips from a movie. The copyright is for the whole show, not for increments.

@@garypulliam3740 Also those fine episodes are shown in the World Wide Web hence they are scroutenised by the various REGIONAL and NATIONAL LAWS and in Eurpe the COPYRIGHT FOR ARTISTC PRODUCTIONS IS TIGHT, had been even made tighter in the last years. So here in Germay I find lots of clips blanked out with a riminder written in White on Black that this clip had been canceled due to copyright violation. And if some unhappy fellow has done this to him repeatedly KZitem or whoever else has to cancle the complete channel
