Combo boxes are a fantastic way to show meaningful information while storing something cryptic to the human eye. A combo box is a combination of a list box and a text box.
A list box displays rows and one or more columns, the source of which can be from tables that are not in the form record source. A text box allows a user to type. Combo boxes can be used on Microsoft Access forms and reports.
In this lesson, you will learn how to change a textbox into a combo box that stores a foreign key and shows a list of records from another table for easy picking.
Once the combo box is created, change Name, Row Source, Column Count, Column Widths, List Width, and consider the Column Heads property. The Row Source for a combo box can come from tables that are not in the form (or report) Record Source.
You can also use a combo box to show calculations from related tables -- and then echo those numbers in a textbox control whose Control Source is a column of the combo box. Column indexes start at zero, not 1 ... so index 2 is really column 3.
