I can’t thank you enough for these lessons. I’m going through something incredibly hard right now and while listening to your lesson my outlook on my trial has completely changed. I would’ve never been able to learn this on my own without your explanation. I can look at my trial now and actually thank the Lord for it instead of being so upset and frantic and wondering why life has to be so hard. I just want to say how grateful I am. Thank you.

You have helped the Lord teach me again. My first wife and I had 8 children, before she died. Then I remarried and she has 3 kids, we figured 11 was enough, but my P. Blessing says the all the blessings that were promised to Abraham Issac, and Jacob will be mine. Well my new wife just got pregnant, unplanned, and it has been hard to understand why in my old age of 45 I would have another. Well I have been blessed to listen to this, Posterity is one of the blessings I am promised. My first wife toward the end of her life gave me permission to marry again if anything should ever happen to her, at the time I thought nothing of it. Now listening to this I see so many parallels in my life to Abraham, not that I am as great as him, but none the less. So she gives me permission, then I marry again, and now we are going to have a baby, that posterity through her as well. I have so much in my heart, I cannot write it all, but thank you for the work of editing these videos, thank you for teaching the gospel.

Thank you, dear Brother Halverson. This lesson prompted me to pray and ask the Lord to help me “live up to my privileges that the angels could not be restrained from being my associates.” In all humility I have recognized some of the familial traits in myself that reflect father Abraham’s sincere desires to become a greater seeker of righteousness. Brother Havlersson, I was impressed by the spirit that as you were talking about Abraham dividing the animals and that’s Abraham saw the smoking furnace and burning lamp that passed between them, and that they would be in bondage in Egypt, Moses when he divided that Red Sea, the Israelites walked though the middle with water on both sides, this being another symbolism as they are walking toward the promised land. Your discussion was at 2hr 28 minutes in the video. This solidified again my testimony that God does keep his promises and also by showing us and teaching us through symbolic methods. Thank you much for this incite.

Such a wonderful lesson, as always! So many things you said hit home. Throughout this lesson, it became more obvious to me that Abraham and Sarah's lives had such a strong overarching theme of sacrifice. From Abraham being offered as a child sacrifice to Sarah being willing to sacrifice her virtue to save Abraham. From Abraham offering animal sacrifices and sacrificing land to Lot in exchange for peace, to Sarah sacrificing her role as a mother by offering Hagar to her husband. Of course, Abraham would later be willing to offer his son as a sacrifice, and Isaac was willing to sacrifice his own life. Every member of that small family had to sacrifice the most important things in the world to each of them. It's honestly painful even thinking about it all. Knowing that we're all part of that same sacrificing family is not something I like to think about too hard 😅 But it comforted me during this lesson to realize that at least among all the most painful sacrifices, the Lord never required them to actually follow through. He just needed them to have willing hearts. We hear about Abrahamic tests as it relates to the test of Abraham sacrificing his son. But really, his entire life--and the lives of his whole family--were a series of Abrahamic tests. And because of their continued willingness to sacrifice, I think the name Abraham has become even more defined by the miracles and blessings his family received as a result. I'm so grateful for their example, and for a God who never asks us to sacrifice anything unless He plans to bless us with far more in return. P.S. Thanks for spending some time on Melchizedek. My ears perk up every time he's mentioned because my last name, Malchus, is the Greek relative of the name Melchizedek. I never noticed the parallels between him and Enoch before. So cool!

I loved your insightful comments. The Lord truly refines our hearts through our willingness to sacrifice our selfishness upon His alter of faithful obedience….I agree completely that this is quite often painful…but the promised blessings of His covenants will wash away all fear, and pain…How blessed we are to be allowed to faithfully grow in this perfected light❤️😇. Thank you for your eloquent expressions…keep up the good work👍

I've had similar thoughts and questions as that woman you were talking about near the end. I think it's mostly about relationships. Relationships are where the joy is found - our relationship with God, our relationships with each other, and our relationships with ourselves. Maybe we don't fully comprehend that joy as mortals. But there is obviously something there that is important.

Regarding a viewer’s question of why posterity would be a greatly valued promise, in my reading I have come to understand that this was on the minds of many during the time. It was on the heels of the flood where the people had been destroyed. Even though we’re seeing many great cities during Abraham’s time, there was plenty of room (so to speak) for posterity. That meant having a part of yourself that lasts for generations. Who wouldn’t want to be remembered for generations? Not only that but there was so much idolatry then. Abraham being keenly aware of the pains this brought mankind, would have rejoiced over being able to help increase the number of those that would worship the only true god. He, after all, began his search for God wanting the joys of the fathers. This translates to us today where we are charged by our prophet to gather Israel. I’m so grateful that Abraham appreciated and treasured this covenant and the promises it meant for all of us.

Over the years as I have tried to understand the Abrahamic covenant, I have come to define the covenant, for me, as a promise from the Lord that he did not leave us on this earth alone. That by making covenants with Abraham/us he is reminding us that he will not abandon us on this earth, but promises to help us have joy and find meaning during our probation. That by promising priesthood power (His power), posterity (inclusivity and love in a tribe) and progress (hope for eternal life) he is showing us that we are not forgotten.

To address that young womens question. So often people who think they don't want children are over the moon when it finally happens to them. The only way I could describe it for myself was... "Before they came I couldn't imagine who they were, and after they came, I couldn't imagine life without them!" It's all about posterity. Second thought... When you talked about Abraham cutiing the animals in two and making a covenant path which the Lord walked, you said, "covenant" means "to cut" Ithought it was interesting that circumcision is a covenant that also involves "cutting"

This after a long long time thinking and studying and finding no contemporary religious need for it, I believe it is completely unnecessary. I think one of the things that caused Sarah’s humanity (natural man) to creep in is she thought she was the “problem” and wanted to offer a solution to Abraham. Thinking you’re the “problem” and having seemingly proven evidence is a hard and bitter pill to swallow. For her, she longed to do her best and follow the Lord and help her husband and (in the natural man view) after it was so easy for her handmaiden to receive the very blessings she wanted and worked for is a crushing and painful blow. To secretly fear that she wasn’t good enough and that the Lord didn’t trust her to bless her with an inheritance of children, but keep powering through with faith and then have that “evidence” thrust in her face and pierce her heart and soul that her fears are seeming to be proven…yes, that is a very painful thing to endure and her initial reaction WOULD be to default to the natural man (especially with her handmaiden lording it over her).
