The fact that she salutes the World War II pilot retiring is what makes her the superior casting for the role of Beverly Bass. Even more so than the original Broadway cast in my opinion

This medley does such a great introduction to the entire musical, giving you a little piece of the many great stories that came out of Gander on those darker days of September 2001. Having been to Newfoundland once, and returning there this May, the kindness, caring and selflessness of the people of Gander is so typical of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. I saw this show in August 2019.

Newfoundland is Irish Celtics and English , Nova Scotia is the Scottish Celtics , the loyalist and English , New Brunswick is the l’acadie , the loyalist and English , Prince Edward Island is the French & English & Scottish & Irish & some loyalist also , Quebec is mostly the English and the l’acadie & some loyalist heritage there also , Ontario is mostly English , Then Canada it’s self is also home to first Nations territories specifically the mi’Kmaq , maliseet, Inuit, Métis, plus a good part of Canada population is immigrants so we got a lot of different cultures going on also on top of that . Different cultures is what makes up Canada and specifically the east coast , The Atlantic provinces of Canada has had many debates and fight over time of who land(technically that would be the First Nations as they were the first settlers in Canada).

This is because during the Irish Famine, those who didn’t end up in Ellis Island in New York, landed in Newfoundland due to it being closest to the west coast of Ireland. The reason all of them didn’t go to Newfoundland was because of the harsh weather in the winter. So the boats would drop emigrants to Newfoundland during the summer, and to New York in the winter.

This show is incredible! I was so fortunate to see it live in NY and this cast sounds amazing! It's such an inspirational story. Rachel has a great belt and communicates this song very well, but I still haven't heard any performance surpass Jenn's. She just digs her teeth into the emotion of every line and becomes Beverly and her journey is so moving. She has a strong voice and a wonderful high belt and a unique character to her voice, but I think Rachel's voice might be technically better. But the emotion from Jenn and her overall performance trumps that, for me.

My mum (now retired) was a pilot of a similar generation to Beverley Bass (Beverley is a decade or so older), but she qualified around the same time that Beverley did. (And I wouldn't be surprised if they had at least met considering the number of jobs my mother was either offered or straight-up got because she happened to be at the right pub near the right airport at the right time.) My mother knows a sufficient number of other women pilots that I apparently didn't even realise that men COULD be pilots until I was about six but that's the exception even now, unfortunately. Literally everything that Beverley-The-Character either sings or says (especially when she's talking about the planes and so forth) literally does just sound exactly like something my mother would say and for another she does have literally exactly the same story that my mother has about her early experience as a pilot (right down to the WWII pilots being capable of being an issue even if a lot of them were great). Her standard response to "girls shouldn't be in the cockpit" was always more along the lines of "well that's great. Anyway I have to go and get in the aeroplane now so see you later".
