Sarehole Mill is on the Hall Green and Moseley Border in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Tolkien lived in Hall Green as a boy and the mill and surrounding bog land and woods is said to be the inspiration for The Shire, home of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. Tolkien based the bad tempered Ted Sandyman on the real miller at Sarehole Mill in Lord of the Rings. Join me from Sarehole Mill across the Shire country walk to Trittiford Mill park on a late summers day.
If you would like to visit Sarehole Mill is about 4 miles south of Birmingham, England.
Address :
Cole Bank Rd, Birmingham B13 0BD
Open between April - October.
Entry to the gardens and outdoor area is free. Entry to the mill itself £6 per adult. Tea room and cafe serving home made pizza is available.
Please check website before visiting as The Mill is volunteer run and opening times vary : www.birmingham...
