The Selkoups came from the word ‘shelkoup’, which means ‘a taiga person'. Eleven years ago Sergey Agichev's family moved to live in taiga. They purchased deer. They made a vegetable garden. Raised children. They come to the village only for gasoline and groceries. There are no more than a dozen such Selkoup families left in the north of Western Siberia.
