Why is it easier to come out to complete strangers on social media, than it is to tell your family and friends?
@PoweredByRainbows
4 жыл бұрын
I think because you trust and love those closest to you more than you do a stranger. Everyone we love has at least a part of our hearts in their hands. When they don't accept and love us in return, they squeeze and break that part of our hearts. But for strangers, they don't hold a piece of our hearts yet so they don't have anything to break yet.
@kelseydarlene9073

This may be saying exactly the same thing he said but also strangers are easier to sorta “run away” from them and having that sort of mentality that “hey, if these people don’t accept me, it’s easy to get away from this toxicity” Whereas, it’s a little harder to “run away” from your family and close friends if they don’t accept you. Again this might be exactly the same thing he said but said differently, lol. I think weird but I hope this helped too

Because the closer the bond, the more it hurts when they don't accept you or act in a disapproving manner. It's still easy to come out to the portions of my family that I know are accepting but for those where I really am left in the dark on what they're response will be it's definitely scary.

I’m planning on coming out to one of my brothers by writing an entire essay explaining that I’m non binary, how I feel and ways he can help. Only issue is printing out that essay without my parents noticing as they are not excepting of trans people. Both of my brothers don’t strike me as the kind of people to be transphobic. I’m writing the whole thing tonight and I already have my first draft done. I’ve kept many secrets my brother has told me from my parents so I think he can do the same.

We have a lot more coming out advice videos coming very soon but it's always nerve racking. Just try testing the waters and talking about a celebrity or one of your friends who is gay or trans and see how they feel about it. Then once you feel comfortable and know you're going to be safe, tell them whenever you want to. It's not a thing which can or should be rushed. I had panic attacks for weeks leading up to coming out to my dad but that was years after I first knew I was gay. But I wish you the best and if you don't feel ready right now, don't sweat it. You can always be yourself here on our channel. This is a safe place.

I really want to come out to my family and the main problem is my grandmother. I was testing the water and we have a gay family friend who everyone loves but she brought up that she thought someone my age was too young to know. It felt like a slap in the face. She trusts me in so many other ways but not to know who I like? It hurt and I don't know when I'll be ready to try again.

I’ve been wanting to come out to being trans and pan to my older sister and I want to do it in person, but she’s currently serving in the military and is never really home, and when she is it’s during holidays. (Not saying that the military is inconvenient or anything, just saying that it sorta sucks not having my older sister around a lot) Now, I’m sure she would be fine and accepting but I’m never really quite sure so I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell her... she was planning on coming home a few weeks ago but then COVID-19 happened and she wasn’t allowed, so... now I’m worried that I won’t be able to tell her for even longer. On the plus side tho, it means I can still really think and decipher what I think I truly am, although I am pretttttttty sure but i feel it’s always good to really make sure seeing as I have a history of being indecisive, lol. Wish me luck for when I can tell her!!

I found out when I was your age too! I left it for a few years though (now I'm 15) because when young people come out the cishet adults around us tend to believe they have a say in how young or old you need to be to know. Anyway, if you wanna test the waters I'd advise asking your parents or guardians what they would do if someone close to them came out just to see of it's safe or not. If the answer is negative I'd leave it for a while an then ask again in a year or two, but if it's positive I meaaaaan go for it!

I am in my 30s and only a couple years ago did I realize that I was bisexual. Now my parents seem to be okay with celebrities who are gay or lesbian, but I’m afraid they might think differently once they find out they’re own daughter, aka me is LGBTQ+. Plus, my mom’s side of the family is really religious and you pretty much know what that means when you’re LGBTQ+. Some days I feel closer to being ready to come out to them, other days I don’t. Literally no one, not family or co-workers know I’m bisexual.

My plan for coming out as trans: Moving to the other side of the planet (Germany > Canada), posting a WhatsApp status that's just "I'm a girl btw :3", updating all my profiles to include my chosen name and pronouns. Alternatively, I'm not doing the WhatsApp status, but when I'm a good bit into HRT and voice training, I'm gonna have a video of me being a girl.

We have a new version of the pride flags and what they all mean episode airing in about 2 hours from now so I suggest watching it all and listening for a flag which best describes you. But don’t rush to put labels on things. Life is a long journey and it’s okay if you don’t put a label on things today.
