One thing I think most people do not realize is that Adam Peters did try to trade back into the 1st round to pick up a higher-graded OT. The cost did not fit our rebuild package even with the higher number of picks that we have accumulated. At 36, there wasn't enough value at tackle to take one early in the second. That put them in a BPA situation. Day 2 concluded with solid picks in areas of need as well as BPA. Every player has a RAS score in the mid to high 9s.

AP knows what he is doing! Hoped for an Eagles GM clone, and we got him. If anyone thinks we could do better plugging holes and upgrading the roster, I'd love to hear it. Cap still good, brought in atheletes (some were captains on their college team) to coach up, brought in vets to help, fantastic coaching staff. This year we are trying to turn around the culture and compete every game. Next year we kick it into high gear, whole team will be younger and hungry. I expect some UFAs signings and maybe look at some Ts after cap and post-draft cuts. We drafted for high ceiling, now we need to coach them up. RR crew thought college did coaching and all they needed was a playbook. Our olines were good with Bugel, Grimm, and Matsko, but you have to start with good players; as someone said, you can only do so much with a Yugo.

Guys hell yeah it was an effing great podcast!!! It’s Saturday night and the draft is over and I’m absolutely thrilled with what Adam Peters and the team have done both in free agency and the draft. I happened to really like Newton before the draft and was bummed we didn’t need one and when we picked him I was beyond happy. Guys this is not a 1 season rebuild project. It’s going to take another draft at least. You don’t build from what the prior regime left them in one off season. I’d have loved to be able to fix every problem all at once. But as you indicated that just isn’t realistic. I feel great about where this team is going.

Still some part of the draft to go, for me it's a mixed bag I love some of the picks, and I think we reached for some. But it's going to be a 2 season fix, let's see the end of the draft and any free agents. The Washington Commanders' tallest WR thus far is a 6ft 2 slot receiver.

My problem was never with getting more swings at the ball, but risking the development of our future franchise qb. Many of us that didn't like the trade and picks wanted the absolute best OT and were willing to overpay. In the end if it leads to developing the qb for the next ten years that was resources well spent. If missing out on OT means the QB thing ends badly, you lost far more than overpaying a tackle.

Interesting comment that “they” were willing to OVERPAY. Who is they? The couch and social media GM’s whose jobs are not on the line? It certainly wasn’t the Commanders, even though as stated above, they tried but found no willing trade partners. How can someone be disgruntled when the team tries but can’t find a trade partner? This coaching staff will coach up whomever they bring in during and after the draft. Let’s not forget, still 3 picks to go, UDFA’s and 3rd wave of free agency.

Think he’ll start w terry and jahan in the slot and add an extra dimension. Interior of oline should be good to go but tackle is a little worrying. @brianmulholland2467

Okay, look, as someone who DOES think it's a big deal that they didn't do more at OL, let me defend myself. First, I DO like this draft. I'm sitting here during the 6th round and they've added LB Magee, and S Hampton, and I like them too. I like Newton. I like Sainristil. I would like picking them in any other year. I like the trade back. But I also agree that Jayden is the big piece of chicken or whatever JP was babbling about. And Jayden is a very thin QB with a track record of running face first at oncoming trains. It is NOT crazy to be worried about his durability. I think the need to protect Jayden with blockers, and arm Jayden with receiving options so he can get rid of the ball on time, should have been the dominant mission of day 2. It should override, just this once, the need to go Best Player Available. I respect Peters' devotion to the religion of BPA. I worship at that altar as well, albeit more casually it seems. We need to be building the best nest around our new baby bird as we can so that he succeeds. Defense is next year's problem. WAS can repair the damage by going out and getting some OTs in free agency. But I really would have liked them to do more in the draft because those free agents will probably be short timers, and that's more instability in a position group that benefits most from stability.
