Just a thought about when you are finished with the boot and showing the viewers the shoes. If you placed shoe trees into the shoes while you are showing them they will look ten times better. It will finish them off and they won’t have all the bending or wrinkles that they now have. Additionally, you may be able to sell more shoe trees in your store after the owners see what they look like with the shoe trees inserted. Shoe trees will also extend the life of the shoe and they will look brand new for a much longer time with the trees in them. If you had done this when you showed us the finished burgundy shoes they would have looked so much better, as they looked very old and wrinkled in spite of your very good work. Loved the show and just thought this might help.

Great video and awesome work! Just curious why you did not cut a channel in the rubber sole prior to stitching?

Hi David thanks for the feedback I tend to do a video then forget about it ...my apologies to anyone who has taken the time to comment and I have not responded sorry. There is two reasons why we didn't groove the soles before the Goodyear stitch, one is the boots or shoes that come with commando full soles originally on the shoes never have them grooved and the second is that the commando tread pattern is so high that it protects the stitching from wear but I have always thought that the toes could benefit from a groove to protect the stitching on the toe as we all know its the outside of the heels and the tip of the toe that get the most punishment on a shoe, we have started grooving our commando club soles (round stud pattern) just for a little bit more protection for the stitching Thanks for watching Kenny the Cobbler

Did you check out the stitch length? You have to make sure to stitch in the former holes, if not you cut the welt strap...

Hi thanks for the comment It is near impossible to get the stitching in the original holes, we set the stitching machine to 4mm stitch (6 stitches pre inch). When stitching a shoe as you see in the film the shoe is upside down so unless the technician spikes a pilot hole first from welt through to the sole for the awl to come through to use as a guide for the first stich then there is no way of knowing if the stitching is going through the original stitching holes on the welt, in my experience a goodyear welt will withstand at least three/four resoles goodyear stitch before having to think about replacing the shoe welt. For all the years and all the technicians I've met over these years I have never met anyone trying to match up the original stitching holes on the welt but we can always try harder for perfect results. Thanks Kenny the Cobbler

Are these Catesby brogues? saw them v cheap and was curious about durability. they don't look too bad for price but I'm v skeptical regarding wear.
