Save the Children supported and worked with the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, and other stakeholders to commemorate the Day of African Child in Dodoma- under the national theme; Strengthening Child Safety; End Violence Against Children. The theme is drawn from the regional Theme- Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children: Progress on Policy & Practice since 2013”.
Speaking during the event- Bester Mulauzi- Save the Children Country Director reiterated Save the Children’s commitment to work with the government and other stakeholders to ensure children and children’s needs are represented when decisions that impact their lives are being made. These include ensuring that their views are represented, their opinions are discussed and their suggestions are resourced and implemented”
The Country Director commended the government’s efforts to develop and implement the National Plan of Action to End Violence Against Women and Children which is now under the evaluation process. As the key stakeholder in these initiatives, Save the Children is committing its full support to the government in the evaluation process and implementation of the plan- when it is ready. He also called on the government to prioritize and increase resource allocation for prevention and response to violence against children.
