The “pets aren’t toys” commercial is actually highlighting a specific problem where many families adopt a pet without being ready for the actual responsibility of raising and caring for them. What’s going on is that the family gets tired of the puppy, especially after they pee and make messes (a common thing for an animal to do, especially in early life), and the man who puts the puppy in a bag and tosses them in a river is the patriarch of the family, getting rid of the puppy while the kids are asleep. This was, and may still be, a worryingly common way for people to dispose of unwanted animals back in the day. You may recall from a certain Tom and Jerry cartoon that there was a wet sack of kittens entering heaven, or (if I recall correctly) this being a way a character was attempting to get rid of kittens in the aristocats movie by Disney.

As a Brazilian, I can throw in a few bits of info: - About the sandal commercial with the little girls, that blond woman is no ordinary woman: she's Xuxa, who was extremely famous back then that--get this--the most popular children's TV presenter and singer. She was the most commercially successful female singer in Brazil at the time, and had been in romantic relationships with Pelé and Airton Senna. The commercial is supposed to look "cute", with the girls making porn movie vocalizations. That's the kind of stuff we found funny back in the 90's. I remember the ad running on TV, and I don't remember people complaining about it back then. It's been unearthed a couple of years ago, and the younger people were (rightfully) horrified. - The MTV Brasil vignette did indeed air at all times of the day, but back then, we thought it was just another ordinary avantgarde vignette. With the speed of the frames, it was *very* hard to discern what was going on, and I think people had to record it on VHS and freeze frame to see the pictures. I suppose the message is the conflict between spiritual enlightenment and carnal urges... maybe? No idea. The worst thing is that Brazil was going through a big hysteria about "subliminal messages" back then, so it was really bad timing for MTV. It didn't hurt the channel much, though, even though they closed down several years later.

I remember getting the Daisy ad on KZitem for a few months. It always gave me the vibe of some creepy hippie cult like the one form Midsommer. Also, the soda commercial with the dog puppet is actually a deep cut reference to an old British tv show starting a similar puppet character, Muffin the Mule. I recognised it because I saw it in that one episode of Doctor who were they time travel to the queen’s coronation in the 1950s, playing on one of The old timey tvs in the background.

The London Olympics thing is just a series of terrible decisions. To make a painting of a child serial killer with children's hands is bad enough, let alone put it in a museum. But to put it in the Olympics that's meant to represent your country? Why in the hell would you choose *that*, of all things, to inspire national pride? Whose idea was that? "Everyone who worked on this commercial all eventually died." Well, I mean... that could be said for ANY old commercial. In the grand scheme of things, everyone has a finite amount of time on earth. That doesn't make a commercial cursed. "If it was "Everyone who worked on this commercial all eventually died in horrific, violent ways," then maybe I'd call it a curse.

Not many people bring this up when discussing the Quiznos ads, but the ‘Sponj Monkies’ weren’t made specifically for the ad, they originate in a viral internet video prior to the ads called ‘we love the moon’ (which is directly parodied in the ads) made by the indie animation collective, ‘RatherGood’, they are fairly well known for their tweened collage-like image manipulation animation techniques, a lot of their other animations are quite well known and they’ve done ads for other brands most notably the British milkshake brand ‘Crusha’ (I’m literally an idiot I’m so sorry he vry obviously brings it up in the vid, ignore me 😭)

The weirdest ads I remember was one of a baby doll that pooped out charms for a charm bracelet, one of the Irish safe cross code ads where a cartoon child had been hit by a car offscreen and now he was all injured, and I was shown a reupload of an ad of a giant belly bouncing through a city singing “belly’s gonna get you” but I didn’t come across that one organically. But the most disturbing one I’ve actually seen air was an ad for texting and driving where the car spun out and killed a bunch of small children. It aired in Ireland and if I remember correctly there was a series of ads but that was the worst one. Terrifying.

He starts smoking one stick from a hand and then he starts smoking a circle of them by detaching his lower jaw. The commerical then asks "can you tell us why smoking isn't stupid?" And i remember the logo was a yellow y.

For the Mr. Bucket commercial, it gained notoriety because of AVGN doing a video in his "Board James" series about it, which went viral back in the day. And I imagine the "put your balls in my mouth" thing came from that as well. In the video, AVGN bought one of those Mr. Buckets and used it in a skit where the bucket came to life and tried to force AVGN's balls in his mouth. That's probably why its on this iceberg, especially so low on it, as the commercial itself isn't really all that dirty.
@MrMeow-dk2tx

46:05 This actually kinda triggered me a little because there was a real-life event similar to this commercial. It was on KZitem before it got taken down, but reuploads and/or possibly elsewhere probably still exist. TW: decapitation It contained a young girl/ woman volunteering at a magician's event or whatever, and the guy puts her in a box to saw her head off. The music is too loud, and the woman is constricted with a white cloth over her mouth, unable to flail her arms enough as the man saws away. Blood can be seen staining where her mouth is covered until her arms stop moving and go limp. When the man opens the box, the lid gets caught on her hair and/or cloth, causing it to lift her head up and out of the box. It lands on the stage and rolls toward the audience before stopping. That's all I remember. I don't like the idea of a commercial reenacting that, even if that video wasn't the exact inspiration for the commercial.
