I danced with my grandma and dedicated this song to her. I was crying so hard because she was whispering in my ear that she was so proud of me. She said she was so grateful to have me as her granddaughter. She was the one who raised my brother and I and she flew across the country at 90 years old to my wedding. She was truly the best ever

I, as an older guitar player, would like to know what the expression ''old school'' means. Using the word ''school'' implies some particular way of doing something. Logically ''new school'' guitar players are doing something different to ''old school''. Now when I analyze and work out the structure of modern songs I find that the guitar players are using the same scales and chords that I am familiar with. Therefore the expression old school or new school still baffles me. If it just means old then just say old I have no problem with that.

Wow, this came out in 1978, and I went on a crazy road trip with a couple of friends, and this song got so much airplay it was insane. We always looked forward to the extended version because it is so beautiful. I just learned that Lionel wrote this about his mom. He told a contestant on his Idol audition that he wrote it for her. This song is as good now as it was then. He is such a great guy on top of being a beautiful singer, excellent song writer, "Lady" to be specific, because he was devastated when Kenny Rogers passed away because they were such great friends. Kenny asked him to go to something with him and Lionel was like "why me"? and Kenny said "because you're my best friend". Seeing them singing together is proof of their friendship.

@@ROZAKRIU Lionel is incredibly talented as a writer, a singer, and as a man. I love him and I don't care that he is black and I am white. We both bleed red. He is an amazing man, and to hear Kenny tell him he was his best friend brought me to tears. Why can't we all be friends or at least not hate others? I wasn't even thinking about guys when it came out, but that song is so incredible. I love it as much today as I did back then when I was just a teen.
@survivrs
2 жыл бұрын
@@ROZAKRIU Here's the Cliff Notes comment on Lady and Grammys. “Lady” was nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards, and its success spurred another five-year run wherein Rogers won five American Music Awards and Richie won four Grammys. You're talking with someone who is 62, so I think we are using different thoughts while meaning the same thing when talking about Three times a lady. Kenny had called Lionel, asking him if he would write a song for him, and Lionel told him he didn't have time, then Kenny said it would be part of a greatest hits LP, expecting it to sell 5 million copies in the first week and Lionel asked if the next night at 7 would be ok, and all he had for Kenny was the word "Lady". It's hilarious to hear Kenny tell the story-I'm sure you've already listened to it being a fan of the 2 of them like I am (I'm assuming). They truly did love each other and I compare the two of them to another duo who were so close and that was Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb. Jimmy wrote the songs and Glen sang them. They were incredibly close as well. If you're interested and want to listen to a fun interview, Alice Cooper tells a great story about Glen and their times on the golf course together along with some other things, unfortunately he was eventually seeing signs of Glen's Alzheimer's when he couldn't remember jokes. Anyway, the friendships made by these 4 guys just get to me.

In 1978 I was 10 years old and my first year of sleep away camp in Pennsylvania. This song played all summer long (mostly during rest hour after lunch) in our bunk on one of our Counselor's transistor radio. I didn't understand the meaning of the song but knew it was special. Every time I hear it, it brings back fond memories of such an innocent time. Thanks Lionel, for this wonderful song:)

I was about 15 years old when this song came out. I listened to his music so much in the late 70's and early 80's . For young people first experiencing love, these songs transported us to so many wonderful places in our hearts and minds. Wonderful memories of the music that was so relatable! Thanks Lionel Richie!. Look at me, I am here in 2023 listening to it, and it is just as beautiful and romantic as it was for me in 1978. Now that I am celebrating 40 years with my husband, this song really means so much to me!
