While it doesn't make sense in a realism way, most of the time it's just because adding those details aren't worth the time for the developers, especially if they aren't focused on realism in the first place. TF2 as a prime example is not focused on realism at all so why put in the time/money to add the code that says the gun wasn't empty so don't do the pump part of the animation (or even add a new animation where there isn't a pump). Seems like something relatively small and easy to do, but a vast majority of the player base won't notice or care on TF2, so why should the developers?... Now there definitely are games out there where it would be more noticed and cared about by the player base, such as CoD games or milsim games. Also not saying these small details won't go unappreciated either, sometimes these kinds of details can make people appreciate the work put into the game even more.

probably from alot of devs using civilianized reproductions as the basis for their models, since in the US atleast you cant have open bolt, as it is considered to be too easy to convert into full auto aka machinegun, and once something is considered a machine gun, it is always a machinegun, there is no "just convert it to semi" like in some european countries, it must either be left alone (if it was already registered prior to 1986) or legally destroyed and rebuilt as a dedicated semi-auto only, closed bolt (if it was open bolt) gun. either that or they based everything off various toys and airsoft guns, since those are cheaper and easier to acquire than even a reproduction of a real historic gun.

My only gripe with the antitank/antimateriel rifle bit is while cold war era and beyond AFVs are essentially immune beyond tracks being damaged by repeated strikes, WWII era Tanks and most all armored cars are still susceptible to being effectively damaged by targeting weakpoints. Exceptions exist of course, such as the king tiger and similarly well armored tanks, but things like Pz IVs, Shermans, and hell even the Panther's lower hull sides; were vulnerable to AT rifles. But the more realistic games that have AT rifles do model this more or less properly so ig i'm just arguing into the wind for no real reason.

Also, the M240(This applies to M249's as well) should also be charged to rear before opening the feed tray. Not for the same reasons as the M60 portrayed in this video, though. It's a safety thing, as sometimes you end up with your last round being stuck in the chamber, unfired, and waiting to cook off. Charging the bolt first has a tendency to force the cook-off, and as long as that can potentially happen, you want it to happen while the feedtray cover is closed, and not while you're trying to charge it with a fresh belt. Also, part of loading any open-bolt belt-fed machineguns is verifying that the chamber is clear before loading so you don't inadvertently pull the trigger and end up with a double feed with spent casing, or a potentially live round still stuck in the chamber especially. I was a machinegunner for four years. Specifically behind the M240L. I can go on about them.

Fact about m60 pretty funny, I was surprised when in mod for fallout 4 that includes this machinegun character firstly pulls back handle and secondly opens it for recharging, but even not every AAA shooter have this specialty.

One other Mistake which I Know why it isn't put in games but revolvers take half a second before firing for the hammer to go forward, but if they did add it the revolver will be slow inaccurate and no one will use it so I guess it makes sense.
@TheSimpleMan454

What revolvers are you firing? You can put a shot on target at 60 yards in less than three tenths of a second (and that's including the draw time) with practice. And some people get down to less than a quarter of a second. Which wouldn't be remotely possible if there was that long of a delay. And we're not talking slick, modern Chiappa or Smiths here, these are Pietas, Walker-Colts, and Webleys. Half a second delay. That's a new one on me. I'm surprised and genuinely curious.

Oh I can actually explain that one Some of the later models of the m16 (mainly the A4 and some of the A2 varients) feature a semi/burst select fire. So if you're just unaware that the name doesn't stop at "m16" you're gonna find mixed answers to such things. But seeing the A1 with a 30 round mag in the hands of just any infantry soldier does kind of annoy me, far as I know they pretty much only saw use with the XM rifles and such at first, while most infantry just carried 20 round mags, even having LBE specifically for such mags like the bandoliers 😅

on the m1's release button, i think suprisingly one of the only games i've seen portray this was infinie warfare of all things granted this was shown on the DMR-1 (basically a retrofitted garand), not the actual M1 since the M1 doesn't let you reload until you empty the clip

Why do so many games fuck up the hammer on the 1911 and M9. So many games have the hammers forward which means it wouldn’t work in the case of the 1911 or would be locked back after the first shot in the case of the m9.

I could see the M240B having a system that feeds the cartridges into the box mag for cleanup purposes but I cant imagine the design would work very well or at all due to really needing to put stuff in the box the same way. I could see it throwing the shells sideways and causing a blockage.

The anti material rifle thing is very much a balance thing. Its not that the devs are dumb necessarily, they just want the guns to be fun to use. Attention to detail is cool but sometimes its sacrificed for the sake of balance. The rest of these do just feel like lazy mistakes

I remember reading an article ages ago about an M1 that had a 20 or 25mm round pierce through the turret ring and rip through the commander's chair. Luckily the commander was off his seat, trying to get a better view through his cupola periscopes. There are also official documents on how autocannons have destroyed M1s by starting engine fires, etc. So, in a way, a (large caliber) anti-materiel rifle could at least achieve a mission kill or something similar, even if it couldn't outright destroy it by piercing the armour. Games just rarely simulate things with such accuracy.

Something else they always get wrong with RPGs is the warhead. It's pretty much ALWAYS a 93mm HEAT warhead (PG-7V or PG-7VL, right?), but it pretty much ALWAYS functions like a 40mm HE-frag (OG-7V). In the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, it's even labeled "OG-7V" but is modeled after the PG-7V (or PG-7VL). The HEAT warhead (High-Explosive Anti-Tank) is a shaped-charge projectile and is a lot more complex than HE-frag. HEATs are for punching holes through armor and installations. HE-frags are for killing or maiming lots of enemy personnel all at once. As for machine guns (belt-fed or otherwise), video games almost always depict them as basically suped-up assault rifles. One noteworthy exception is Red Orchestra. I hope S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has Red Orchestra-like gameplay mechanics, complete with the ability to lie prone and make use of bipods. 1:17 Also called a "booster." Since the RPG-7 is a front-loader, its tube can afford to be relatively thin (40mm), thereby keeping the overall launcher relatively lightweight compared to, say, an 84 or 90mm hoss of nondescript make and model. 1:35 That can likely be chalked up to open-bolt versus closed-bolt. Even the vast majority of us who have experience with firearms, muhself included, have never had the opportunity to use anything that fires from the open bolt. Probably because anything that fires from the open bolt is full-auto. If it lacks a full-auto mode, it might as well fire from the closed bolt. I don't know about semi-auto-only "civvie" versions of belt-fed guns. Yes, those exist. They're mostly niche novelties. I'm not averse to the idea, but I'd rather see the oppressive gun control "laws" of 1934, '68, and '86 done away with once and for all so we can have access to "the good stuff" without having to endure unconstitutional transfer taxes or fashy bureaucratic paperwork. All power to The People! 4:21 That's intolerable! Unforgivable, even! The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games never made that mistake. 4:27 I wonder if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. switched from the correct technique to the incorrect technique (grasping the GP-25's nub grip like a foregrip while firing the host rifle) because of CoD. Style over substance doesn't belong in the Zone. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is supposed to set itself apart and be better than the status quo. When incompetence becomes "tradition," a trope is born. See also folding or collapsible stocks being left in their storage position in movies. [cue reference to Billy Bob Thornton's character in 'On Deadly Ground' asking his buddy if he should leave the stock on his Swedish K "in" or "out"] Note: The fact that CoD puts the GP-25's quadrant sight on the right side and then doesn't let you aim using the quadrant sight is cursed. Putting it on the right isn't a problem. The GP-30 and GP-34 both have their sights offset to the right. But not letting the player aim with the quadrant sight is incompetent and insulting. 4:43 "Exemplary!" ~Sir Hammerlock 5:57 / 7:28 Ditching mags is dumb unless it's really an emergency, hence the term "emergency reload." Also, "wrong-handed" reloads (reloading with the shootin' hand instead of the support hand) are only justifiable with front-heavy guns. Or if you're playing as a hapless Soviet conscript in a game set in Soviet times that doesn't take place in an alternate timeline (Atomic Heart is alternate history). The Soviet Union actually trained its hapless expendable conscripts to shoot right-handed and to reload with the right hand. Nowadays, that technique is considered to be just as obsolete as the Soviet Union, itself. Note: Tactical reloads are always preferable to emergency reloads. 6:25 I like having the option to use it DMR-style with iron sights. Some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods let you do that, including but not limited to Oblivion Lost 2010, Anomaly, and Gamma. 6:46 Why do right-handed wheelgunners nowadays always reload with their shootin' hand?! As a left-handed shootist (or "westpaw"), I resent that. If the cylinder swings out to the left, that means the configuration favors you "eastpaws," so you oughtta take advantage of it. Yeah, I know you have to hold the cylinder steady. The "westpaw" method of loading a "right-handed" revolver is to hold the cylinder with our right hand and load with our left.

Here's few: Shooting C4 detonates it,when in fact,C4 is highly stable explosive,you could yeet it into fire of Mount Doom,it won't go off without primer being detonated first. I don't thing that shooting C4 is even good way to disable it,let alone destroy it,but I could be wrong with this. Shooting car will set it on fire and eventually car will explode. It could happen if you cause a spark that ignites the fuel,but good luck achieving that with regular bullets(GTA SA is most guilty of this,where,if you hit a fuel tank,car explodes) RPG and similar launchers with anti-tank charges are used as anti-personal. Without fragmentation charges,these rockets would largely be useless against people unless you score a direct hit(there's a reason why Ukrainian forces are mounting mortar shells onto rods to launch them from RPG)

If I remember correctly, the m60 in cod4 worked the way it should, I distinctly remember mimicking a cod reload when I first used an m60, I never knew you had to do it until just now. My only experience was with some cheaper gas airsoft guns, you had to charge it back first to make it last longer, so I assumed it was healthy for all guns
