That’s not mating, that’s dominance behavior. Animals use mounting not just for mating but dominance. Personally I do not find same gender mating a sign of gayness or bisexuality, same as it’s not really a same sex attraction either, it’s just instincts. If you want to see queerness in birds, like at their nest making and baby raising behaviors- that’ll tell you a lot,
@toriquill1505

@@sociallyineptsnapper yeah, no. Nowhere did I say they were gay. I said that they stopped the lesbian partying, which is obviously a joke. Ducks have a lot of hormones and need to mate. The two just happened to be female so they found pleasure in each other. They bond with each other, but there really isn't "sexual attraction" between ducks. I don't know where you got that. It's just the need to mate. Neither of them were dominant. They took turns, evenly. Never was one on top more than the other. I've only ever had dominant female on female once I got drakes, and that wasn't even the same females I'm talking about here. Another thing is that if ducklings drink too much water at a time, like on a hot day or right after you fill the container, they have no idea when to stop because they're enjoying the water and can get pretty "drunk" (wobbling around, unable to move, etc) and if they drink too much after they go into that "drunk" state, they can accidentally drown themselves, so keep your ducklings with smaller amounts of water and fil them more often, or a bigger water container that you keep full but are able to remove, just in case 😁😁😁

We had birds for a little while, here’s the mistakes we made: 1) We only bought 3 ducks and 4 chickens to start. While it might seem smart to only start with a few, it’s really not worth the work you have to put in maintain them. To a certain point, more birds will only add a minimal amount of work proportional to how much they add to the flock. Plus, a bird dying doesn’t throw off the gender ratio of the flock or leave the remaining birds feeling scared and defenseless. 2) Not building for what you want, but rather just what you think you need to start with. We just went with a default 4 hen coop from Tractor Supply and put up a small wired run to start our flock. Not only was the coop too small, low to the ground, and hard to maintain, but the run was similarly lacking for the birds themselves. Within a month, the ground was bare, the ducks had made the whole run into a mud puddle, and we were struggling to keep the wood chips changed out to prevent mold growth. 3) Not assessing local predators. We had never realized it, but we have a kitting pair of foxes that nests in the lowest part of our property every year. Once the birds had destroyed the inside of their run, we had little choice but to let them free range in the yard. It wasn’t long before only 3 of our 7 bird flock remained. They got sent to live on a proper farm with a proper flock after that.
