Nice detail. Like these insides for a code compliant install. I’m researching for my DIY solar. Thanks

I am so glad you are covering these safety and code issues. I know you are not teaching to be a licensed electrician but this will help customers be safe and hopefully pass inspection in only one or two visits

What is the reason for the manual transfer switch when the inverter has grid input and ATS?
@SignatureSolar

If the inverter were to fail, you would be able to bypass it.

I know the transfer sw because of the batteries. Can a system like this be grid tied with a way of using a “transfer” sw only when you need the batteries?

This would be a setting to swap power priorities - the reason we recommend the transfer switch is so if the inverter needs a firmware update/to be taken down, then the house still has power from the Grid. Otherwise if the 18kpv goes bad, you would need to pay to have grid rewired to your breaker panel and then pay again to have the inverter rewired when it arrives.

I got a question if you don't use solar and store them in the winter when the sun's not out will the solar panels last longer?
@SignatureSolar

Yes! Just keep them protected in storage!

this is one of the things I hate about these installs, they make the side of the house look like an industrial complex. Someone needs to come out with a cleaner way of installing these. This looks Crazy for residential.

Hopefully if the system is installed in a small electric room it will alleviate much of the water proofing.

Please don’t use the two camera shot if you’re not going to switch to looking into each camera. It’s a very distracting experience. Otherwise good information.

Code about panels/devices and water are what they are… he does say some questionable things here and there, but if you don’t have a memorized script and aren’t the best public speaker, things happen… the biggest gaffe for me was the safety glass part for her, but he certainly has no side shields so his aren’t safe…
