You can get all the pull dynamics right with the wrong torso lean, both forwards and backwards. Too much forward lean compromises your force generation. Too much backward punishes you with an extra sit-up each stroke that wastes energy. Neither of these affect the pull dynamics, but they make you less powerful or less efficient. It's always lean that I have to check in the mirror, because you don't feel it on the chain. Most of the other mistakes you really feel on the chain, if you know what the chain is supposed to feel like.
