Root beer was originally used Sassafras roots to add flavor which is how it got its name root beer.

This plant supports Imperial Moth (Eacles imperialis) larvae which have one brood per season and appear from April-October in the south.

The leaves have a strong scent when crushed early in the season that fades as the season goes. It has been said to smell like Fruit Loops

Anecdotally, its wood is relatively hard and heavy. This is an excellent, abundant, native wood to use for mounting tropical epiphytes, such as orchids.

I’ve seen some videos of younger sassafras trees with multiple skinny trunks. If I were to plant one would it create separate trunks? I just want a normal one trunked tree
