Loops on the bottom of the fabric mean no upper tension or too little upper tension. Be sure the thread is between the upper tension disks. If that is not the case it could be the machine needs timed.

We do not carry that type of sewing machine. But if it is skipping stitches it is likely a timing issue. Sailrite machines come with timing instructions in book form and also on the DVD that comes with each machine. See if the Seiko sewing machine instruction books explains how to retime the machine, if so try that.

My sewing machine does the loopy thing on any fabric, with the presser foot down. Do you know what's wrong with it?

There may be a better explanation for the birds nesting with the presser foot up. Is this machine like most I have seen that release upper thread tension when the foot is up? I modify some my machines to strip that function out so that extra thick layups can be sewn.

When the presser foot is up the tension disks are released so that the thread is not under great tension and can easily be pulled out when your fabric assembly is removed. The Ultrafeed sewing machine's tension disks will always engage when the foot is down, no matter the thickness of the fabric assembly. So... I do not recommend removing the tension pin that separates the disks when the foot is up.

I'm normally fantastic with all tensions but I think something is broke as machine acting like foot isn't dropping properly since I took it appart for a clean, my foot tension won't rite itself & adjustment ain't helping.

I find the cause is usually a bent needle, the first thing I now check. Often, I can't even see the bend until I put it on the table & roll it. Bent needles can mimic timing issues because the scarf of a bent needle isn't precisely where the hook expects it to be. If the timing is adjusted to compensate for even an imperceptible bend, you'll have it to do again when you do install a new needle. Janice Joplin wanted a Mercedes Benz; I just want a Sailrite, the finest machine in production today.

What needle size did you use? 135 x 16 or x 17? SD1 or D1?

We were using a #20 size needle style 135 x 17. We were not using the SD1 or DI.

What is the difference between 135x16 and 135x17? Also what about the shank? I've read some are round? why is that? Thanks

+atakishiyeva1 What is the brand of sewing machine you have? Does it have a rotary hook or oscillating hook?
@SailriteDIY

+atakishiyeva1 I would assume your Janome is either out of time or that the retaining ring cap spring (if it has one) is damaged by a needle deflection issue. Try inspecting the timing chapter in your guidebook and check the retaining ring spring for damage. Sorry, we do not service or provide support for sewing machines that are not sold by Sailrite. You may need to take it to a Janome dealer, if you can not fix it yourself.

i noticed that you broke off the tip of the needle. i know you know this, but for the benefit of those who don't, always find the missing tip. if it is in the fabric, that's one problem, but if it is in the machine, it could do some real damage.
