Hey, everyone! I thought of a major trigger that I forgot to put in the video…seeing police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, etc. It isn’t uncommon for kids in foster care to dislike or fear the police, sometimes because their family taught them to, and sometimes because they witnessed a traumatic scene with someone they love involving the police. That is definitely another one to look out for in your kiddos!

we had this one! The trouble was that the police station was right on the corner of our street! We ended up going to visit the police station with some chocolates at Christmas time and the officers gave out trading cards to our kid. It totally changed the way he experienced police. We did the same for the fire department - we booked a visit so he could walk around the truck and feel more comfortable.

@@kickdropacoin I love that! We have had a lot of great interactions with our local police too. The schools also have some great SROs that are kind to the kids :)

As someone who is an ex foster kid working to be a foster parent , growing up my triggers where accidentally being exposed to some form of pornography wether that be from a movie or talking about it over hearing it from another adult or child and swear words EMPHASIS on swear words omg . Also I am still traumatized about the foster parents who wouldn’t feed us or feed us only 2-1 meal a day, and it was hard to get water. Absolutely disgusting people who don’t deserve to be fostering out there .

Holy cow, I'm so sorry that happened! No kid deserves to feel hungry/thirsty/violated, especially not by a foster parent of all people. It must have taken a lot to get through that. I think all your future foster kids will be really lucky to have you, and you're going to make a big difference so no kids have to feel how you felt. I don't know you, but I'm proud of you.. hugs from the midwest

Do I have to join Facebook to join the Adopt Informed community? Would love to be apart of it but I deleted my FB 9 years ago and I prefer to stay off public-facing social media in general. But would love to join this group!

@@Lovrofthearts I totally get that! Unfortunately, you do have to join Facebook, but some people choose to make an account just for the group. They don’t add friends or use it for any other purpose. We’d love to have you! ☺️

Snow days - loved them as a kid, hate them as a foster parent. My kiddo who was triggered by changes saw it as you lied. You said we go to school, now we aren't so you lie just like my all the other adults who lie so I can't trust you which means I won't listen to you.

😢 That must be so hard for you both!

That is so hard! My kids were just happy with snow days because it meant no school, but I could see how that could trigger some kids.
