The history of this Venezuelan valse dates back to 1915 when the musician Antonio Carrillo composed it with the bandolin as the main instrument, the piece had no title or lyrics but that same year and by fate some musicians of the Mavare Orchestra of which Carrillo was a member took the music to the former priest and poet Carlos Borges who at their request gave it the name "Como llora una estrella" . The piece became well known in Venezuela but remained without lyrics until between 1939 and 1940, when another musician and poet, Elisio Jiménez Sierra wrote it at the age of 20 or 21. However, Jimenez never bothered to claim the authorship of those lyrics and the piece remained known only for the music but in 1968, Freddy Leon who years later would be the propellant of the Venezuelan Valse along with another producer invited the Mexican star MARCO ANTONIO MUÑIZ to record in Caracas city some Valses but for bad luck or good luck, Muñiz fell in love with "Como llora una estrella" and both Leon and his partner did not know that the song had lyrics so they urgently asked the composer Arnoldo Rivas Toledo who composed the lyrics of the immortal Vals leaving the lyrics of Elisio Jimenez Sierra in oblivion.
