Except no. Me a previous actual calculus student that spent 2 and a half years studying just that and classes that used only that. *looks at numbers* That 33rd power is such an order of magnitude larger than the 22nd power it will be bigger, their base numbers aren’t much different than each other so they can ignored for the most part. Most of us hate logs. Logs are stupid, they suck, and most of the time if your not actively being taught them you’ll almost never see them again except in speciality fields, even then they aren’t that common. Integrals also suck but they are common as shit

@@shadowninja8011 it was a joke. As a current calculus student, we had gone over logs again and were refreshed on it, so it’s quite common in my brain right now. That’s the joke. I understand you take different routes to get the answer, in fact, when I was solving this problem I saw the commonality that 22 and 33 both had a gcf of 11, and I solved the problem accordingly. Was just a joke.

@@ArtAlpha108 I'm guessing you're in algebra. Honestly for a lot of it you can just repeat a process. Think of all the manipulations you can do to some equation, and go thru them to see if it'll get you anywhere. Look for things that let you factor a quadratic, an (a^2 - b^2), or to pull something out from everywhere into parentheses. Speed comes with practice and time. If you're in pre-calc or geometry then it's a lot more understanding the concept, most trig functions. I can't really give more specifics unless ik the exact class.

I'm always coming across these questions in real life. At the supermarket they have 2 packs of sugar the same size but different brands and they price one with a log value and one with an exponential function and I have to work out which is cheaper.

Logx is increasing function. Take log for both thingies. 22log5 approx equal 22×0.7 = 15.4. 33log3 approx equal 33×0.48 = 15.84. as f(x2) > f(x1) so x2 > x1. Thus 3^(33) is larger. This was done knowing you know approx values of of log2, 3, 5 and 7

I solved this in less than a minute without using a pen or calculator. Here's how I did it. Apply log(base 3) on both sides. U get 22log(5)_3 on Left side and 33 on right side. Now, we focus on log5 base 3 term on left (specifically if it's greater of less than 1.5, as that will decide if 22 multiplied with that term exceeds 33 or not). 3^(1.5) is 3√3, approximating √3 as 1.73 we get 5.19. since 5 is less that 5.19, the term log5 base 3 is smaller than 1.5, hence 22 x log5 base 3 will be smaller than RHS which is 33.
