Once people start to know what they want, brands will know what they want to produce for them. So is thanks to guys like Titto that people is informed about these cinema lab secrets, and in turn brands will deliver a more "atlas" approach to more budget lenses. So, is a market thing, rather than a technical in optics, cause the technic in optics and manufacturing is well known for those who are in touch with it. Examples one can see in a book like "Cinema Lens Manual" by ASC writer Jay Holben. So if we now have more brands that make cine rehoused lenses, we are not so far from what Titto is looking for, and a hole bunch of hidden DPs in this planet also. Thanks Titto

I guess its subjective and each person chooses what look they want based on each scene, as long as any of the characteristics don't become a distraction. To me, the idea of at least watching a movie is to stay focused in the scene, where the look subconsciously connects and not when the look pops out too much or too less. Personally, I love the look when you combine an old Helios lens with a 2x anamorphic and how rotating it rotates the image, that you can use for a certain scene to add those distortions, especially when you pan, it looks dreamy. But when you want a simpler, more clinically perfect scene, you can use a simpler lens. As for size, weight, complexity, it really depends how much you are willing to accept, as long as you're getting what you want from the scene, so I wouldn't try to sacrifice the scene by considering weight and size issues and get an easy to manage set up for my comfort. I'll try to make it work and stabilize and handle it better. The scene is important, not my comfort and after you nail it, it pays off. But that's still a choice of the filmmaker and people can really choose if they want things easy to work with or do what you can to achieve the desired look that the scene demands.

@@AnamorphicOnABudget Hi, first thanks for your answer and these great videos. They are a precious resource for all of us. In the video, when you talk about Sirui, you say that "at least, 1.33x and APS-C is not enough" followed by the text "Sorry, we don't have APS-C cameras". From the way it is presented, it felt a bit like you might have some strong opinion against APS-C. Or maybe it was about something that I don't know about APS-C and anamorphic or because of less squeeze factor. Generally, I'm curious to know your take on this APS-C vs Full-Frame debate too and if there is something specific to know about their differences when using anamorphic lenses. Going back to Sirui, you also say that Full-Frame Sirui lenses seem too sharp and that lost that classic anamorphic look, so it seemed that maybe Sirui APS-C lenses might be better - which made it a bit confusing for me:) And why less coverage? Isn't the Sirui 35mm APS-C the same of the Sirui 35mm full-frame for instance? Thanks again!

@Anamorphic on a Budget , one thing that I think should be mentioned is that brands like sirui and Laowa tend to have less "anamorphic" traits when it comes to lenses with things like Laowa's lenses having solid flares and lacking a dynamic look, or the "oversaturated/radioactive" flares that Sirui gives. Overall this is a great video but thought I should point that out (btw I know that this is a subjective topic but just wanted the mention it)

I will never understand the obsession with full frame lenses, there's absolutely nothing wrong with S35... it's all relative to the sensor size. Film cameras have always been S35 and the vintage glass works on digital S35. It's all relative anyway. You're not getting less lens because it's S35, especially with how much resolution is in today's cameras. To me, out of these three, the Nanomorphs win EASILY. I mean, I don't think it's even close. People have comparison videos to Atlas Orions (obviously Orions are better, though, but shockingly, not a ton). I have a set of Mercurys still on pre-order but I'm going to get a set of Laowa's Proteus lenses, which have won me over. I didn't realize how much more established of a company they are, more than Atlas and of course, Great Joy and Sirui. I have some Siruis too... but meh, don't love them.

I tried the Sirui both generations. I don’t like the super blue lens flare. Which is only suitable for certain projects. I’d rather get a more vintage look, lower contrast, less sharpness in corners, nice bokeh. For commercial work I’ll shoot a modern lens, for narrative or music video with a vibe I’ll go vintage or cine lens, and to add a step I’d go anamorphic, which needs to have as much character/imperfections as the vintage/cine lenses, not have this modern look of being too sharp. So I guess modern adapter on vintage/cine lenses with character works. Unless some company makes affordable anamorphic lenses with character

Well 7054.22 x 3968 to be exact, so you’re cropping 90 or so pixels off the sides. Is this right? Whilst not very anamorphic it could be a handy ’interesting look’! What if I buy Laowa Nanomorph for Fuji XH2s. With that i can use the full sensor open gate recording and with 1.5x squeeze the output can take in 20.25. is it a good idea ?

I'm working towards Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 with vid atlantic rear shape and sirui adapter on the front with a black mist. Should be AF too 😍

Laowa seems to have the best image quality but the downside is the sensor size only super 35.

Whatever lens you are using when you do the talking in this video, don't overuse it. It's a speciality lens look. Very distracting bokeh

Hi everyone, is there a huge difference between the standalone version of the Sirui APS-C MFT mount and the mars edition ? I'd like to buy only 2 of them for a trip but I don't know If i should consider investing in all the mars serie ? Many thanks by advance !
@AnamorphicOnABudget

Not really. Just more convenience with size and gears. The original versions are lighter than the MARS.

I still shoot with an original blackmagic pocket camera because i love the image, but Im looking for an anamorphic look. Been using the EF speedbooster, but anamorphic options are limited with the protruding rear elements on all of these lenses coming out. Any suggestions?

Although I’m all for these companies pumping out cheap anamorphics, which would eventually lead to great affordable products in the near future, its still not the way for me when comparing it to say a sharp adapter like isco coupled with something like a mamiya 645. The resulting quality would just blow any of these lenses to oblivion. Yes, a pain in the posterior but no competition in terms of image quality. The difference between this setup and a proper cine anamorphic is less than the difference between this and a sirui anamorphic or similar

I have been a subscriber for a few years. Good content. Question, I shoot with the GH5. If you could buy a starter anamorphic lens, which focal length would you suggest? Which brand? I value your opinion, and any other feedback is appreciated. 😊

Any recommendations for a ~5" monitor in the $300-400 or under range that will work well with the Sirui FF anamorphic lenses?

That's the only adapter-based system I'm curious about. I haven't talked to Jim yet, but I'm guessing he'd be into it.

@@AnamorphicOnABudget I think that, and the Aivascope 1.75X (new one) are kinda the best of each end of the spectrum for adapters. One is full hog vintage with proper focusing optics/mechanics added, the other is new and small, with tons of vintage character and great FOV.
