I have the lcr 357 and I love it, the trigger is excellent, and I have no problems using a speed loader, before my edc was a G27 and a xd9mm subcompact, but I find myself carrying the lcr more than the others

I commend you for doing this video. I think these are perhaps the two best compact snub nose revolvers in the world. I don't own either of them, but want them both - which also makes this video so valuable. Thank you.

I do not use speed loaders for my LCR and J frame. I carry speed strips instead. They are flat and I can carry 2 strips in a Tuft Velcro pouch and an extra strip in my pocket or ankle holster pouch. Train with them. In my early LEO days we used revolvers. Speed strips are the way to go. If you need more than 5 rounds to do your thing, then you are in a fire fight and no J frame will be on equal footing. Carry a semi auto or an M14 for fire fights. Leave the J frames for self defense.

The LCR can have front sight changed easily, also the grips can be changed to smaller Bantam boot grip .. I owned a 340 .. Its a expensive 38spl maybe a 38spl +P but the 357 mag , I could not get back on target quickly and it was painful to practice with 357mag .. Carry what you practice with ! The LCR357 even with the Bantam grips can handle the 357mag ( Remington 125gr Golden sabers ) they recoil less .. but the 340 still was not manageable ... The polymer frame of the LCR also help absorb the recoil ...

I’ve shot w/laser grips on a J frame and just don’t like them. Maybe I’m too old (early 70s) to change but given the purpose of a small revolver (close combat) I fail to see the need for a laser.

don't care about a trigger pull of a defense gun. You won't notice a heavy trigger when the adrenaline is flowing in a life or death situation.

I was lucky and my friends had both when I was trying to decide between these 2. I chose the 340. I liked the u notch rear sight better, and I shoot it better for whatever reason. the trigger is better on the lcr but the 340 trigger isn't bad to me. plus I like the smith cylinder release much better. just personal preference though, both are good.

My 340PD is a great EDC and I’ve learned to handle it’s heavy trigger. As to your 340M&P having a 10 lb. trigger pull that’s way better than my 340PD, whose trigger pull is so heavy I can’t measure it on my scale, which stops at 10 lbs.

I installed an Apex Tactical J-Frame Duty/Carry Spring Kit. It is an easy upgrade and cost about $26. I highly recommend them.. Apex claims that the kit will reduce your trigger pull by about 3 pounds. My trigger pull was over 12 pounds originally and now it is just around 8 - 9 pounds and much smoother. Let me start by saying that my 340 M&P has a smooth trigger. I LOVE it. It shoots way better than I thought it would when I purchased it. I have never measured the weight of pull but I believe it is less than yours. I am a Ruger fan but just don't like the way the LCR looks or feels. I have also had friends who carry the LCR tell me they find it difficult to shoot well.

One of the really neat things about your videos is that I can always hit the like button, even before watching the video! Keep up the excellent job. And there's no need to apologize for liking one gun over another. 😊 Personally, I love and carry a Smith and Wesson 442. I'm thinking about getting either a Charter Arms Police Undercover or a Rock Island Armory m206 for their 6 shot capacity and heavier weight. I'm leaning toward the Charter Arms. Smith and Wesson no longer makes a 2 inch Model 10, and Colt no longer makes any snubbies.

It's amazing how much more accurate a 3" barrel is compares to a 2" barrel. Plus the extra inch really doesn't affect much with concealment, so I'm not a fan of either. I do carry a ruger gp100 with a 3" barrel and love it

Thanks for the video and input. You are aware of the factory Crimson Trace grips that are offered on the LCR? I believe LaserMax also makes their own Ruger LCR laser as well. With respect to the ease of carrying, I do not plan to pocket carry these guns personally, I carry on the hip. And so the Hogue grip issue you have wouldn't be an issue, just a another positive regarding the recoil absorption. Would this information change your opinion on the best choice? I've considered purchasing the LCR.

You should feel the recoil of the +P .38 load in the LCR .38. I can't imagine how horrible the recoil and feel would be on the .357 LCR. Both of these two revolvers are also very similiar in weight.

As always...enjoyed the video. Indeed whenever there is a discussion about a wheel weapon I am there. I carry the SP101 or the SR9c, for CCW. It has been this way for years. Lots of training and I am very fond of my SP101. Though I may substitute (after all this time) the S&W 686+ 2 1/2 barrel. Not a fan of either the two weapons presented. I am glad to see people understand that revolvers have a legitimate place, in this hi-tech world. Peace

I agree on the J frame as superior for concealment- I've always had a bias against the "shrouded" hammer although I do see its benefits. I guess the 357 in a small frame would be for shoot a little and carry a lot mentality. I will at times carry a S&W 351 which is also very light and has 7 rounds of OK "just" 22 caliber but it is a magnum. Good review! Thanks for sharing- Al

Since it seems as if you've shot both revolvers a lot, have you ever had any problem with crimp creep, like in an LCR 9mm? or does that only happen with lightly crimped ammo like the 9mm, and the roll crimp with .38 and .357 is never an issue? I bought an LCR 9mm and immediately had problems with bullet/casing total separation with the cci 115gr ammo I used at the range....I won't have that weighing on my head if ever having to take a defensive stance. If you have an LCR 9mm, I suggest you check your ammo by firing 2 rounds, open the cylinder, then 3 rounds, open the cylinder, then 4th round open the cylinder. If bullet/casing seem to be separating or fall apart, time to at least change ammo. Anyway, has .38 or .357 ammo ever done that to you in either of these weapons? Thanks, good review....just a little gun/ammo shy with the LCR 9mm problem...dont really want to worry if I buy some ammo off the shelf and wonder if its gonna fall apart on me after 2 shots. Again, thanks.

The LCR is alot more reasonably priced than the SW and a smoother trigger pull. LCR does come with laser grips from factory or night sights but cost goes up. I would have got the LCR .357 but at the time they only had the LCR. .38 that shoots +P loads which already have too much recoil. I won't trade up to a LCR .357 just stick with the .38 +P.

Rugers are tough, reliable guns sold at a reasonable price. You can't really go wrong with a Ruger. They are the "tank" of the gun world. Smiths, on the other hand, do everything well also and are absolutely elegant. They cost more but the guy who buys fine cars and watches will buy the S&W. Nothing "wrong" either way. It boils down to personal preference.

Personally I don't think it would be wise to carry the LCR for a new york reload. Generally you want to have the same gun with the same trigger pull when you do that. I.E. Georgia State Patrol carries a Glock 27 in conjunction with a 22. Magazines are interchangeable, trigger pulls are the same. Virtually the same gun just smaller package. Just my 2 cents.

Funny, when it comes down to it, you are going to carry the gun that's more comfortable on your body. Even if it hurts more too shoot. You might only shoot it once or never in your lifetime while carrying it. If you can, you'll carry it all the time. So I guess it's more important to be comfortable most of the time. If you ever have to shoot it, you won't even notice it hurts.

I got rid of my LCR because the trigger pull was so bad, On resetting the trigger there was actually two different reset clicks. If you went to the first reset click (like many of us are taught) and pulled the trigger you would lock up the cylinder from rotating and not fire another round. It was a very unreliable firearm for a carry gun unless you are a trigger slapper. The S&W has a heavy trigger but like typical S&W very consistent and smooth. If you drop in lighter springs this can be taken care of very easily and get down to a 5-6 pound trigger. Every LCR I pick up I check the cylinder lock issue and everyone has it. S&W for me.
