Excellent video. Imteresting to see some from Taiwan. Love that steel. My manix 2 has not left my pocket since I got her.

Thanks for the video and the work you put into it, i wonder how much the results could change between the two after sharpening.

The Para 3 Maxamet was sharpened vs the factory edge here. Without a doubt the Sage would perform even better after a few sharpening’s

Awesome test! Did you ever get the HRC tested? Thanks 🙏🏻

The factory edge of my Native 5 in Maxamet was soft, I rolled it cutting up carpet, not what I expected. It took several sharpenings before it lived up to expectations so I wouldn't put much value in testing a factory edge.

If it did this well on a factory edge it would only be better after a few sharpenings

Are you saying his knife might or would perform worse after sharpening? How? Why?
@CGSW

@@ToxicityAssured I am saying my Maxamet factory knife edge had been annealed/ was soft so it did not properly represent the true character of the steel. It took several sharpenings to get to good steel, after which it reached the steel/ceramic edge it is well known for. It not only will hold an edge cutting abrasive materials forever but it will chip like a ceramic knife if you're not careful. I chipped mine stropping with a cream carrier loaded strop. The cream soaked leather creates more drag on the knife which overloaded the apex causing it to chip out, water carriers don't do this to the leather, so I have since switched to water for my diamond sprays. I assume you have heard the stories of sections of the edge just breaking off on some people when sharpening. You have to be real careful not to overload the edge both when sharpening and using it. Maxamet acts like a ceramic in many ways.

@@CGSW If his test of the factory edge was poor, then you could say don't put much value in it. If the factory edge is very good, that result is of value. A potentially burnt edge already did good. It will likely only get better with a few sharpening sessions. This is what EDC was trying to say in his reply to you.

@@overlandedc I understand, but you said that the Sage is superior in terms of ergos. I think that would depend more on hand sizes and if you prefer a thumb ramp or not (and of course how you use your knife) Anyway if you have long thumbs most thumb ramps suck simply cause they are not placed where you would naturally rest your thumb... Keep up the great work! Much love from Switzerland

The Sage is a lot thinner behind the edge than the Para 3. It is a better slicer for sure than the Para 3.
