The XL200 is capable of up to 64 channels per “zone”. You just have to slide the concentric switch to B, C, and D and it will continue past channel slot 16. Great video, I’ve been looking for an all in one video for years!

I got my ham license when i was 10. At age 11 i was stalked by a pedophile in mobridge SD. At 15 i joined a club and was told to screw off and i wasnt welcome. I got my extra class at 16 and have been reported to the FCC 3 times because i was too young to be operating in the extra bands. I wasnt treated like a human being until I was in my 20s. I rarely operate now. Amateurs did it themselves. I have installed DMR repeaters in my area and still to this day ive been reported for generating noise, and my repeater not IDing every ten minutes on the dot. You guys killed this hobby. Did it yourselves.

I had an XL-200P for a bit. My daily driver is now primarily the VP8000. Thought about getting a BKR9000. However, it only does 1 digital mode. Now that Tait is also launching a multiband and multimode radio TP9900 (won't do NAS)... I need DMR in a radio along with P25. NAS isn't a problem because I carry a Unication G5. We'll see what the future holds. Thank you for doing these videos, I appreciate them!

The Kenwood channel knob can also be set up as stopless. The Harris can have 64 channels per zone if you use the 4-position concentric for Zone Banks - 4 banks of 16 channels each - same deal as on the APX, just there you only get 3 banks. EDIT: I really don't understand the RPM2 hate - if you think its bad, don't look at RPM1. It makes a lot more sense than APX CPS, and it runs a lot faster too.

It’s actually not as bad as it could be. My first issued radio was a /\/\otorola 2-channel P220 back in the late 1970’s. Just re-“programming” LOL with crystals and channel elements was a huge ordeal. Just to have full band coverage required multiple radios. 70CM Ham / UHF / UHF T- Band required 3 separate radios. But they really do seem highly priced now considering the tech advances. I’d buy one in a second IF I could get multi-band / P25 phase 1 and 2 / DMR / FPP and NAS. 73

I prefer RPM2 over the latest versions of CPS and the P25 versions of the Kenwood software. Our department has a pretty extensive fleet of Harris Portables/Mobiles and we can use the same codeplug for both types of radios just by "adding" the radio to the codeplug.

I thought the reason for the display in its position was to holster the radio with the display being protected inside the case and not facing out. Likely concerns that the display could be smacked and broken. Then use the top display for channel reference. The speaker faces out so it is not muffled.

Wow such a great informative video! Lots of material to go over. I am just admitting to myself that I am also a radio afficionado. I own a pair of Relm KNG P800s and a Relm KNG P400. I love them and prefer them over my APX6000 and my Unication pagers and scanners. I am looking at the BKR9000. One of the main points for me since I test how far our systems travel is reception sensitivity on both analog and Trunked P25. Which radio has had the best reception in marginal zones? Unfortunately, most likely no. The reason is, I’m trying to consolidate my radio barn into just a couple of different types of radios. The reason for that is the massive quantity of programming I have to do for all the different radios I have.
