The LRS is definitely not a better value. The Indian gives you so much more for your money. However, the dealer network, the aftermarket, the LOOKS, and it’s a Harley Davidson at the end of the day. If I was starting over, I might actually buy that Indian, but as it is, I’m keeping my LRS till the day I die.

I really wish Harley-Davidson would move on from the boomers and their outdated thinking and just integrate their TFT and related tech into the Low Rider S. "Hurr durr...I don't want tech because less things to fail." Okay boomer, something that can fail is better than something that isn't there in the first place. "Hurr durr...I don't like tech because reasons." Okay boomer. ABS, fuel injection, the ECU, are all "tech" buddy. To me Harley-Davidson has the better bike with the Low Rider S by virtue of the bigger gas tank, rear mono-shock, and I think the 117 M8 makes more torque and HP than the 116 Thunder Stroke. But it's really lame of Harley to charge extra for installing ABS, all LED lighting, or cruise control. That stuff should just be standard for what that bike costs.

When seeing both bikes in person the appearance of the bikes are quite different. The monoshock on the Lowrider is hidden from view versus the beefy twin shocks on the Indian. While both bikes put out about the same numbers the Thunderstroke 116 looks massive compared to the M8 117. The Lowrider S has a much sleeker look versus the Chief but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Harley needs to step it up as far as the display is concerned. It is the 21st century so adding GPS, digit tach and other functionality to the display shouldn't be that much of a challenge.

I will still go for the HD Lowrider S because it has less tech, I just wish the price would reflect that. for me I do not want ABS, or tech that controls traction leanangles reading a map. less things to fail and less weight. I bought a 2018 Kawasaki Zed 900 naked because of this reason the newer models that have all that are 14 pounds more. I still will try a chief Dark horse if They will do drag bars. as far as brembo brakes I never had any issues with stock disc systems on my susukis or my kawasakis, no I do not do track days but plenty of highway riding. For me it will be the HD Breakout, if I can find one in the next month. thank you for the review.

These two bikes are so similar on paper most people could flip a coin and be happy with the result. For me, the LRS is simply iconic in it’s West Coast styling. There’s something to be said about the extras that come stock on the Sport Chief, but it’s not about what each bike reflects on paper. These things are mechanical works of art, and the LRS just looks cooler, especially in the new white sand Pearl color for 2023. Plus the bigger gas tank, slightly more powerful engine, and dope bronze allow wheels. I’ll have mine until the day I die!

I love both bikes honestly- both rode fantastic and are almost mechanical art really. I ended up with a Chief Bobber 111 mostly because of the more vintage look and feel and who’s kidding who, price was a little better at 15k here in Diego. Indian really does not at dealer mark up like Harley, but Harley can because, it’s Harley. As far as upgrades, yes there are definitely limitations right now but I was still able to stage 1 it with a performance round intake(the big scoop one hits my knees as I’m 6’3). Added a set of Dean Speed Rampage pipes and Saddleman 2up. The Indian F****n rips! I honestly couldn’t be happier except maybe a set of Fox piggy backs later on. In the end, should I have dropped the coin for the Sport Chief, maybe- but customizing my bike has been fun and it’s unique for me- great review and your takeaway on the Dyna-bro marketing is a little true but… that is who I see riding thes style of bikes, Harley shovels, pans, and new bikes as well as Indian bikes, I see Dyna-Bros on Challenger baggers out here, so it is what it is-

@@IronBornRider the last 10 years I've been riding a Harley. I love my Harley. But, the Indian is fresh and I'm seriously considering making a Chief my next bike. Until recently, Indian had incorporated technology advancements where Harley was not moving forward. Harley has just stepped up to the plate with the new liquid cooled Sportster which comes with the touchscreen digital dash, lean angle sensor, traction controll, anti-lock breaks. This does make the decision much harder. The Chief doesn't have quite the tech the new Sportsters do. However, I'll probably stick with the Chief. I have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth towards Harley due to the issues with oil coming out of the rocker box breather bolts from negative pressure due to high speeds.
