3:00 RR is thrilled for the finals in the first game, but LR2 failed to continue from here. He was depressed at the beginning of the second game, looking for a way to regain his fame, while originally he was proud to find a worthy challenger.

You’re totally right! This is one of LR2’s biggest missteps in my opinion.

I haven't played 2K Drive but I can understand what you mean. Winning from someone who cheats all the time doesn't sound as rewarding as winning from a champion who's done it fair and square.

I haven't played 2K drive yet, Shadow Z to me seems like a season 1 antagonist set up for the player to overcome, and easily moved on from to more interesting rivals, the most depth that you can pull from Z's story is that "Cheaters Never prosper against legitimate skill" which is a fine lesson to teach to kids.

You know what would have been awesome? A DLC where you go on a travel through time and space in a journey to face the greatest racer of all time and after facing against Captain Redbeard, King Kahuna, Basil the Batlord, Johnny Thunder, Baron Von Barron and Gypsy Moth respectively you finally meet him in a more modernized version of the same scene, even with Veronica Voltage being your guide throughout this endeavour and at the very end he walks out. Rocket Racer. And then he says something like this. "Wow, you came all the way from time and space and managed to take on everyone else huh? Hah! You kind of remind me of an old friend I had! But that doesn't matter. What does matter is that you are definitely a worthy opponent, and just like with my old friend you'll have to beat me on my own track to prove your worth. See you later... at the finish line!"

i remember first time i beat rocket, i immediately phoned my friend and exclaimed what i had just done, but i also had to admit to him thaaaaat i had actually done it in single race instead of the actual tournament, so i had to do it a second time. didn't take away the feeling the second time

Personally for me, i think shadow z acts more like a foil to clutch racington and to extention the protagonist himself. For Clutch, he's basically rocket racer but now a charismatic mentor (or doc hudson depending on how you see it) who plays fair and is generally a well experienced racer overall. While shadow z on the other hand is a dirty cheating coward who lets other people do the the work for him and just an awful person in general. I also like how he's meant to be a cationary tale for cheating and how it won't get you far. (I know that's a common lesson for racing media, but i did find it really interesting since I'm looks deep into anything). So overall Shadow Z is Personally one of the reasons why i love the game in general.

I haven’t played it but I assumed that they would reveal that Shadow Z was the Brickster or something like that. Ulterior motives, suddenly the game becomes about something more than just racing to win-I dunno, seemed like it could’ve been fun.

Great little video. Recently got to try out and Lego 2k Drive and while there's a LOT wrong with it IMO, it's still amusing a game from over 20 years ago is still able to one up it. But lacking a solid a foil as Rocket Racer, who despite only getting three short videos (the Intro, when you beat Gypsy Moth to be able to challenge Rocket and when you do beat him) shows so much character and feel like a legit competitor. Let alone when you DO race him and he abuses Warps just as much as you do. Definitely has a fear install when going against him. And then there's Shadow Z, who carries absolutely zero menace. Honestly the whole thing feels like someone following bullet points about The Lego Movie, understanding ZERO about made that work. And ends up being like a Poor Mans Mod Nation Racers at best. Not to mention all the other stuff going against 2k Drive.

Honestly, i actually felt bad for Shadow Z when i beat him. When the player wins the Sky Cup race, Shadow Z is shown applauding the player for some reason, when the (in my opinion) overused animation of an enraged defeated racer is used with opponents, who don't show the antagonistic behaviour towards the player that Shadow Z does. Quick example: Dr. Jette Fastro personally enlists the player to help her with the robot attack tower defense minigame, as the player is known in Bricklandia for their skills, yet she is furious for being beaten by the player. This does not make sense, now does it? At least the developers inserted the storyteller-terminals as post release content, explaining Shadow Z's backstory (and why Racington uses THAT car in the opening race), at least partially explaining why Shadow Z is the pushover he is.

Yeah, I think this video has officially swayed me: I'm not going to be getting 2K Drive. Sounds like it won't feel anywhere near as rewarding as beating Rocket Racer and I preffer a good plot. As I kid the only time I was ever able to beat RR was the one time I decided to see what it'd be like to play the game in German and I could never beat him since until yesterday when I played as an adult and still had to look at strategy guides for that race and still had to make 5 attempts before I won. If I felt it was because he was cheating I would've had only bad memories of the game due to feeling like it was unfair, but with RR not being a cheater I felt I had to improve myself and that I had a chance.

I think the satisfaction of beating Lego 2K Drive isn’t beating Shadow Z, but rather winning the Sky Cup Grand Prix. I can say from my experience playing from start to finish, I didn’t really care much for Shadow Z and was mostly fixated on getting the Sky Trophy more than anything else.

3:16 Hey dude, If you play the game's latest update, And try to go around each world to find every Infobox. Some of them will show you a audio recording of the back story of the Main villain of *"Lego: 2K Drive"* Where to start? You just need to go to the back of the building, That's right in the front of the *"Sky Trophy"* Once you completed the game. To find the first audio recording of who was before named Shadow Z, It would even show you Why he's rude?

Exactly. They don't really have "their own" sets anymore - almost everything outside of Lego City and whatever Friends is, are brands like Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. I miss their old sets like Aquazone or the Castle sets with the Bat Lord.
