I have, more than once, been asked by someone in the whiskey shop where I am employed..."is there such thing as a double malt?" I suppose it's a reasonable enough question if you don't know much about whisky. The term "Single Malt" is fairly well known and also seems to bring some gravitas. As far as I can tell...those who, don't really know whisky, ask for single malts because movies and books have suggested that the single malt is best.
You and I of course, know that this isn't always the truth.
Not only are there some great blended scotches (a blend of malt and grain whisky) out there but, there are some fabulous blended malts. In fact, from where this novice sees it...blending malts is a gret way to tweek flavours to taste. I'm surprised there aren't more Indy bottlers out there doing it.
Anyway...this short series is just a snap shot of some blended malts on the open market.
Let's kick off with Compass Box.
Enjoy.
