A Path Toward Food Justice with Lauren Ornelas
Food Empowerment Project's (F.E.P.) founder lauren Ornelas, will talk about the systemic oppressions within the food system, such as capitalism, racism, and exploitation. She will talk about how F.E.P.'s core programs: veganism for the animals, farm worker rights, access to healthy foods, and child labor and slavery in the chocolate industry unravel each of these issues and how we can make a change by welding our individual choices and collective voices to help humans and non-human animals.
lauren Ornelas has been a deeply involved animal rights activist since 1987 and is the founder and Senior Programs Director of Food Empowerment Project (F.E.P.). Food Empowerment Project is a vegan food justice nonprofit that promotes veganism, champions for the rights of farm workers, highlights the lack of access to healthy foods in Black and Brown communities, and raise awareness about the worst forms of slavery, including child labor, in the chocolate industry. Watch lauren’s TEDx talk on The Power of Our Food Choices.
