Nice video on the quirks of valved brass tuning. I do consider myself mainly a euphonium player, but it is definitely true that trombones have the upper hand with ease of tuning.

It’s justified that everyone should play bass trombone.

I love that you use the 1&3 on Eb, btw I was the one that commented that combination on one of your past video’s.

Behind every master euphoniumist is a trombonist. Behind every trombonist is a violist. Stay behind to keep ahead! (Besson 967 double; King F trom; lover Viola)

@@Rock-ky9tj, admittedly i overstated an emotional position. For decades i played all kinds of music with a pure euphoniumist who never touched another instrument. (To be honest, he tried ukelele but arthritis intervened.) Decades before that i circled the euphonium and was influenced by other instruments. Valve trombone broke the seal with a delayed fuse. Playing slide trombone, both tenor and bass, for show in the meanwhile taught me to articulate a voice box behind the lips. Signed, euphreak.

@@lk5355 your first sentence is not true “ Behind every master euphoniumist is a trombonist “ . Not every , only to some like you . Coz I know couple best euphonium players doesn’t know how to play trombone . I’m not arguing with you , I’m just correcting your statements . Congratulations on your great achievement by the way . Maybe you should move on to the next instrument !

@@AidanRitchie Not OP, but I looked it up and it said Adam Frey Signature Model. It looks smaller than the SM3X you use now based off the specs. The specs of the AF are an inner diameter of 25.91mm, a medium deep cup, and a throat of 7.11mm.

Isn't it pretty common to tune the third valve substantially flat so that 23 is in tune or slightly flat, and 13 is therefore closer?
@AidanRitchie
Жыл бұрын
If you use a 3 valve instrument, it can be useful to do that. On a 4 valve instrument, there's no reason to tune the valves to have a good 1+3. I personally wouldn't want to make 2+3 out of tune.
@SamuelPlaysBrass

Additionally, tuning 2+3 in tune or slightly flat ruins any possibility of using 3 as an alternate fingering for 1+2. 3 alone can be useful in technical passages or where you need a 1+2 note to be ever so slightly (~10-15 cents) lower.
