I think the joke about being grateful about thanking drivers has to be Michael McIntyre’s best joke ever. I live in Dubai, which is a fantastic country and i love it immensely, but I could write an entire book on the outrageous things that go on on these roads. drivers give you way?! pah! never. need to turn into a lane to catch your junction? the driver in that lane will speed up to ensure you don't get in, making you miss your junction or alternatively risk almost getting into an accident by speeding up. cross hair junctions with cars wildly flying in all directions nearly missing each other. someone flashing their lights at you to get out of the way on a 6 lane road with 5 other lanes free for them to use to overtake. expect a note of gratitude for giving someone way . never ever. using indicators to indicate where youre turning? optional and mostly never bothered with. whatever the speed limit sign says, drive 20 mph more than that. 8 cars at the same on the same stretch of road overtaking and erratically lane hopping weaving in and out of each other. tires constantly exploding, because of the intense heat, but also because of reckless irresponsible car maintenance. and the one that never ceases to amaze and irritate me - can't find a parking space? no problem. park right next to the place you want to pop into in LITERALLY THE MIDDLE of a busy road and put hazard lights on (some don't even bother with this) thereby obstructing traffic and forcing everyone to drive around you, very often on a 2 way road. for this reason, accidents are a daily thing. i have been on thousands and thousands of journeys. I have never driven out and not seen at least 2 accidents on any given journey. But to its credit, people just get on with it and never road rage. i have never seen or heard anyone flying into a rage on the roads or getting into a fight. That's something at least.
