While I don’t typically film in Lancaster as it was always the same stuff as in Palmdale. At the time this was filmed that was different as Lancaster actually had the better variety of trucks from a filmers standpoint. All the CNG Peterbilts worked there as they had to get CNG from a fuel station in Lancaster. Lancaster was also home to the rest of our “city” 2009 amreps. As they are not allowed to work in Palmdale unless for spare duties. The two featured 2009 trucks in my opinion were the best remaining ones in the Lancaster area. Unfortunately no more 2009 Amreps regularly run in the AV and all but 1 have been either scrapped or transferred.
103234 - While my bias is obvious here, this is my favorite remaining 09 amrep, the bias comes from this truck being my first experience with one of these as it was my trash drivers old truck. Despite these being transfers I remember seeing this truck moving down my street on one of it’s first days at work in the Antelope Valley, and thinking it was brand new in 2012. I later learned that it was just really washed up well. It was a totally different experience as the newest trucks I had seen up until that point, were almost 10 years older than this one. Of course this was a transfer truck, but it was my first experience with a truly “new” garbage truck on my street until 2017 when our first Peterbilts came.
In 2018 this truck was reassigned off the Palmdale trash route to a recycle route in Lancaster where it ran until about October 2021. This truck has mechanically held up much better than the rest of the 09 fleet. Despite this, the small amount of footage was all I got before Raul took it back to the yard because of the hydraulic leak that you can see spraying out from the rear most grabber.
103166 - This is an odd unit to me, at one point it was widely considered the fastest 2009 amrep in the Antelope valley when the auto-neutral was used. I’m unsure if that’s still the case today but what makes this truck odd to me is it’s seemingly different body shape. The body casting appears more circular in shape despite the maximum loading tonnage being the exact same on this as the other 09’s.
Thanks to both Raul and Shanda for letting me film!
