I replaced the outer valve springs because they were beyond their service limit. The service manual has a measurement for both the outer and inner valve springs. Thank you for the compliment! Have fun with your project sir. Always take your time, and enjoy the gasket scraping process as it is a good time for inner reflection. :)

First of all, thank you very much! I did not bore out the cylinder because the 88 has a nikasil plating (I think yours is nikasil also). I still had a pretty good cross hatch on my cylinder wall so I decided to leave it alone and just clean it up with a sponge and warm soapy water. I replaced the piston with a stock size OEM piston. Been running strong for 6000+ miles so far! Good luck with the rebuild! Ride safe.

Sorry to everyone about the volume. There was a lot of other noise going on in the garage, as well as the non-rebuild related talk that was occurring. Future rebuilds will include complete narration.

That is AWESOME that you're doing a rebuild. Especially with a bike that has been in the family for a while. Has it been stored in a garage? Is there any rust? If you have any questions we are here for ya! Thanks for watching.

I will have to include it in the next set of rebuild videos my friend. I was thinking folks would use these videos as a guide and not a step by step service manual. Thank you for the input. Keep up the great comments and have a great day!

For those of you watching this video, where he shows he is putting the spark plug in, he neglected to show you that he put anti-seize on the threads of the spark plug before he threaded it into the cylinder. I know he did it, he just did not show it. For the rest of you DON'T SKIP THAT STEP as it will save the threads in your head.

Great video series! Thx for the help. I'm thinking my 89 XR600R may need rings and the valves lapped. I think I'm using a little oil, but not blowing blue smoke. The kick starter is getting soft. Long story short, did you hone or bore yours? Also, did you go with a new or did you reuse the piston? Thanks

did you lap the valves? they had a lot of carbon deposits initially, but towards the end they looked much cleaner.

This might be a stupid question, but when you are finding TDC after the cylinder has been reinstalled with the new piston can you be 180 degrees out? I would assume with no valves or cam for the crank to be timed too TDC is just TDC, right? So as long as the cam lobes are faced down when you install the cam chain and the timing marks line up all should be well. Let me know if that question should be rephrased - I know that might be a little confusing.

Hey mate, did you use stock rings or aftermarket I need to know if the wiseco rings will fit the stock piston as OEM rings are $130+
