Hi! Jose. Another great information video. You pointed out the very real problem we deal with in our British Columbia Canadian neighborhoods very restrictive zoning requirements. As you say Merida / Caucel and other areas in Mexico allow for more freedom to conduct business from home, independent street vendors & stores. It's a different lifestyle and I like it! 👍

Generally you have to report over $10,000us to customs. I wouldn't recommend it though. Keep your account in Canada and get a Mexican account and transfer as needed. In the US there is Charles Schwab where you don't need to have a Mexican bank account and no need to carry a bunch of cash around. Just go to any ATM and withdraw how much you need with no ATM, exchange or transfer fees. Buena suerte!

The smoke from trash being burned throughout Mexico caused my eyes to close while driving this is probably why there are so many accidents in Mexico. My eye become super irritated from the smoke. My other gripe is that almost none of the massive sized speed bumps are painted stripped. I was constantly having to slam on my brakes as I was nearly launched off of the speed bumps that appeared out of nowhere. The speed bumps match the road there is no contrast. The air pollution from smoke is so bad that I had to pull over and pour water into my eyes.

An FMM or Tourist Permit is a only about $40us and is good for almost six months. Only if you travel outside of the free zone, that covers all of Baja and Sonora, do you have to get a TIP or Temporary Import Permit for your car and the deposit you pay for it is fully refundable when you leave. It's a pretty straight forward process and not a big deal if you want to come and visit. In most cases you can leave for a day when your initial FMM expires and come back in and get new for 180 days. I have friends who have lived here for years doing just that. If you want to get a Residency Visa that's a whole other process but is easily doable. Buena suerte!

Why is it spelled "Caucel"? I understand it's an indigenous name and the second "c" is pronounced with a hard "c" sound. So why didn't it get spelled "Cauquel" in accordance with Spanish rules of grammar? It's not as if the indigenous people had our current alphabet.

Great question! I have no clue. In fact I did a quick Google search and it says it is a Mayan word for "Rock Quarry" which makes sense if you know the Yucatan. Very interesting place that will be seeing a lot more growth in the future.

@@JoseArteagaTravels If that place was in Texas, the invaders would have probably misunderstood and ended up calling it "Cow Bell"😃

The lack of trees and greenery on that new neighborhood is just wrong and irresponsible in weather such as the Yucatan. I wonder why people do not take interest, or deem important to shade their homes, their streets! Makes my skin burn just looking at those apocalyptic streets!

I agree but this is the Jungle, it grows back very very quickly. It is already a lot greener than I remember it, imagine in a few more months when the rains come

@Jose Arteaga Travels If the ayuntamiento were to get serious, and force these developers to actually have a green plan for their new, fancy development, it would be a game changer.

New white Nissan ? Seems like hundreds of UNSOLD houses in that development. I see that owner has closed in and gated the front of his house. Is that necessary for security ? Are the Mexicans buying these houses considered middle class or upper class ? They come furnished from the builder ? I like the long rods for hanging clothes in the open, in the upper bedroom. I've installed that same thing myself because clothes stay fresher I'd rather live near downtown myself Any other developments between Centro and Progresso, like half way ? Looks a lot like PHOENIX That is my 2010 white FIAT SIENA at 40:47

What's the point to living in a place that is just like Florida. Seems like you would be missing out on living in Mexico.

There are many reason to live out here. I for one love the year round weather. I hate the cold. Also we visit much of Mexico and it is always nice to come home to the Yucatan. Whenever we travel many Mexicans are envious we live out in paradise and not in the mountains. It is all about perspective and also depends on what the individual personally likes. I am a native Floridian and really love how similar it is to back home. Again its not for everyone. Thanks for sharing!

You and many others think the same thing but lucky for you if that is something you want to upgrade then you can definitely get some railing on those stairs. Thanks for sharing
