Great walk through on the truck! The one great thing about the frontier is they have kept the same engine and body for like 15 years, spare parts are readily available, they are very underrated in my opinion, the reason I got an xterra was they were produced for 10 years, shares the driveline with the frontier and pathfinder, parts are everywhere, it's dependable and it was cheap, I'm not one that can take a new 50k plus rig out and potentially beat it up. I like you're rig man, keep it up.

That is one of the main unfortunate details about the tall cap. I understand why they put the windows where they do...it would look odd if they weren't in line with the truck windows. Great video Donald. Very good ideas for the "common" person. I too purchased a canopy from All American Canopies on hwy 99 in Eugene. Mine is an ARE brand about 6 inches higher than the cab on my 2003 Toyota Tundra. I have the "side opening windows" on both sides. Love those. Next time I would like to add screened sliders on the side opening windows. I have a friend that has those. Great for ventilation for pets or people sleeping in there (without the bugs). I am not set up like you. I mainly use my rig for deer & elk hunting in eastern Oregon, fishing, crabbing, etc. For hunting we use wall tents for sleeping. I do have have a Warn 9000i winch though. Is that a start? (ha ha). Would love to visit some day. Another "Donald" from Eugene.

Except, I'm not out "wheeling" for the day. I take weeklong filming excursions in the backcountry. I need a place to sleep, food, water, clothing/outerwear etc including preparation for unexpected inclement weather. Extra fuel is necessary, I've needed it on a number of occasions. Recovery gear in necessary, I've needed it on a number of occasions. Tools are necessary, I've needed them on the trail on a number of occasions. Navigation equipment is necessary...and my iPad takes up way less space than a stack of maps. Bucket and shovel are required in any vehicle traveling Oregon forests in summer (and I would never travel without a shovel anyway). I perhaps have a little more power management equipment than most need, but I make most of my living producing videos so I have to keep my gear charged up...this is my work truck. But if you think this is too much stuff, I'd love to know what you think I shouldn't bring?

I'm so glad to have stumbled onto your video. I'm a long-time Nissan owner, going back to my first 1972 Datsun pickup, to my 1993 Nissan Hardbody and my last vehicle, my 2001 Nissan Xterra. I've enjoyed every minute with my Nissans and was crushed when I had to donate my Xterra to Kidney Cars for lack of funds to do the necessary repairs to keep it going. On another note, you seem to be an extremely talented fabricator of unique and well constructed additions to your truck. Have you considered making your talents available commercially? I'll wager you could really build a nice business, if you were so inclined. In any eventuality, I will be sure to visit here many many times. Especially, since I'm saving up to buy another Nissan truck. Hopefully, a Pro4X.

I never got this on a scale (and my build has since changed). Leer estimated the topper to be under 250 pounds. Would just have to take an educated guess at the rest. This build wasn't heavy enough to bring my upgraded rear springs down to level, it still sat raked.

Hi, At 16:35 in on your rear seat delete, you left the back of the seat in? I am considering mine (2000 f150, extended). Right now I have been using the passengers bench seat to hold my Bushman 12v fridge. If I remove the seat back I would gain about 6" I think. I think you would too? I do PCP Airgun Stuff, so my seat delete would need to hold a rivle case under my platform, and it would be kind of nice to have a nice platform for using a laptop and charging drone batteries, I will keep watching your videos, and maybe be motivated to post my Overland truck build (200 watts of solar 279ah home built battery, 270 awning and a privacy shelter.....Too much fun. I found you channel researching the gazelle tent, and I am wondering if you had condensation with using a buddy heater in side? Have a good one and thanks for making the videos.

I only removed the 40% portion of the 60/40 back seat. The portion I removed, the entire seat - lower cushion plus backrest - is a single connected unit, and it is completely removed, and that's where my fridge/drawers now sit. I kept the 60% back seat portion because I occasionally need that back seat if I'm transporting both my kids, or my daughter with one of her friends.

I have a 2012 Pro4x same truck same color even I am running a 3" lift leveling kit has a very good break over angle as it sits, I am very picky about aesthetics so I would never butcher my front bumper which probably doesn't help airflow and mpg, I might add a winch but again only if it works with the bumper in tack.

I get that. The winch mount I started with is actually designed to be "hidden" within the intact stock bumper. There is another very similar product out there as well - can't think of the name off the top of my head but it can be done for sure.

@softroadingthewest
7 ай бұрын
It's really not _that_ much weight vs what the truck's (upgraded) suspension is designed to support. It's not like I was carrying a load of gravel all piled onto one side of the bed. And the stuff on the driver side was somewhat balanced by my extra fuel biased towards the passenger side, power station built in on the passenger side, and other items stored/carried on the passenger side (tools, camera gear, firewood etc). The driver side build in the cap was largely hollow (and not hugely sturdy LOL), the stuff stored under the bed did not amount to a significant amount of weight, and the extension itself was built entirely out of aluminum and weighed very little. It's a truck after all, and all of this stuff was not enough weight to make any perceptible impact on how the truck drove or sat. :-)
