Yeah ok this might all be a bit late but here it is. Try setting up the fans so that they draw in filtered air and produce a positive air pressure environment for your rigs. They will dissipate heat easier. And flow that warm filtered air outside in summer and inside in winter. Works for me.

Really impressed by your setup. Might try out something similar when the -2°C swedish winter stops spoiling us muiners. Hi TwoTon. I appreciate your videos. I have a couple question with enclosures. (1) Do you think building a small enclosure for my small hobby rig worth? I am going to place it outside the balcony for heat/noise, in which it will face direct sunlight in the morning. I live in Vancouver, so summer average high is 72F with low humidity. (2) I don't have a skill/tool for enclosures. Do you think it is worth going to a carpenter? How much would it be to create one on 9:57? Maybe buy myself panels from homedepot/lowes myself? (3) Is wood the best for the low conductivity? How about hydroponic tent or styrofoam?

Very nice setup. Even before...but I wish you had your own place that was a little more off the beaten path. It doesn't look like you get a lot of traffic or even foot traffic but that could be a bad thing too. Just like those fools who drive by to steal packages from your porch I worry about leaving the rigs outside in wooden boxes with locks you can easily bust off. Now if you were on your own property with an acre or more the setup could be more secure. Anyway....still a very nice setup.

Just a thought but why not mount the gpus vertically and use floor filters. Push cool air from below the box and hot air out the top? Also, have you thought about the psu orientation? Putting the psu above the gpus might reduce heat as well. Not sure if thsi would work, just a concept.

very nice update on the boxes. great tour as well. i have a few questions, and hopefully you could read them. a) what cfm are your fans (exhaust)? edit: and wattage? b) how can you tell if the fans (exhaust) are working harder than before?
@twotonhasher762
6 жыл бұрын
Great questions (a) 7000 CFM on high speed (according to the manufacturer) but I run them on low speed. On low speed they run at 170W (b) when I close the door on my boxes, creating the seal, the fans bog down (in sound, i can hear it). But, that being said.. these rigs are running very cool. And so far the fans are holding up... so far.
@jasonaquino891
6 жыл бұрын
always trust the data, they say. since this is an exhaust ventilated setup, maybe the fan exhausts air alot greater than what comes in, hence the bogging down. great work on the door seal - makes sure that the airflow comes only from the intake vents. and the baffles. will definitely implement it to our rigs.
@402Racing
6 жыл бұрын
Old topic, but i just applied some of your ideas to my mining room, i noticed that filters reduce are flow a lot, if you are able to notice the fan bogging down when closing the box then you might want to lower MERV rating on your filters, or add more, it will improve your temperatures as well, it happened with my setup.

What is the max temp you see on a hot day? If it's 90 degrees F outside, does that make your base temp 90? Seems like the intake from outdoor air is going to be at the outdoor temp at a minimum right?
@twotonhasher762
6 жыл бұрын
Last summer, the hottest I saw was 102 degrees F on my back porch. The hottest my GPU's ever got (that I saw) was 74 degrees Celsius. Yes the intake of air is always the same as temp as the ambient temps outside. But even in 100 degree heat, as long as your airflow is good enough, this is still good enough to keep the GPU's with in sustainable temps. The trick is removing the heat generated by the GPU's.

Good question. Yes, i leave the sliding glass door cracked enough to fit all the extension cords and Ethernet cables to get through which is about a little over an inch gap. I fill in this gap with an HVAC foam tube and then duct tape on both the inside and outside for a good seal. It's not pretty but it does the job.
