I don't know if you mentioned this and/or know much about it, but I'm gonna give you some information on how Admiral Angry was able to get the sound that they did. The brainchild behind the whole project was Daniel Kraus. All of the melodies and riffage were entirely composed by him. According to the band, Daniel and the other guitarists took a few 34 inch 5 string basses and converted them into 7-string guitars via extra pegs, changing the pickups, etc... . The result were these incredibly low notes that might as well have come straight from a bass clef lol but with the clear and crisp tone of that of a treble clef based instrument like a guitar. A lot of popular Metalcore and Heavy Metal bands in general credit Admiral Angry as being quite influential for their time and going forward for rock/metal music. Unfortunately, Danial passed away at only 22 from cystic fibrosis. Hopefully, this information helps with some context to their sound.

Yeah, that puts a lot of their unique sonic identity into perspective. Bass strings on a modified guitar is a wild idea!

How on planet earth do I get the drumming sound like that? The kick and snare are so massive it sounds like someone smashing a super tight tribal drum with a bone club. Idek how to explain it but it’s so gargantuan and I for the life of my can’t replicate it

Adding to an old video, this is one of my 3yo sons favourite songs (one of mine as well) and i think the groove they pull off is part of it. Even at that age kids can kinda just feel when something is a fucking banger and he just grooves to it. Love the way you talk about it here, thanks for reacting to it

Love the crunchy guitar tone on this! Beyond that it sounds like a more hardcore punky Meshuggah-inspired djent. It's got a nice groove to it, but like most things in the genre if I wanted this sound I'd probably just rather listen to Meshuggah.

Chris's vocals certainly aren't for everyone, but considering the content of the lyrics, I feel like they fit quite well. Their album Albania had a different vocalist, if you wanna give that a listen.

There's two main ways to go about it and it's really up to the person's background on which path they go. One is pure feeling; you'll find this in bands like Dillinger Escape Plan. They simply play what sounds good and feels natural to them, it just happens to be extremely rhythmically complicated. The other path, and probably the more walked one, is approaching it mathematically. Starting out with a time signature and a phrasing in mind and going from there. Most songs us a phrase of 4 bars of 4 beats. So a lot of music is written in 16 beat phrases. You could start with basic modulations of that such as 3 bars of 4 and then a bar of 5. This would give the phrase a little bit of extra length at the end and sound like you're hanging on to the end of the idea. You could also go the other way by shortening that fourth bar to 2 or 3. Easy ways to write music for this is to take the normal 4 beat idea and just remove the end of it. Or, in the case of extending the bar to 5, just repeat whatever you played on Beat 4. You can actually find some really great ideas from Morgan over at @TheProgSchool who has made several videos on helping people write complex rhythms in odd time signatures. kzitem.info/news/bejne/mIKjp4WJiWlmq4Y
