dogs are medicated, they dont have worms. their poop is composted in holes for over a year. i could always just stick it in the trash and let it happen at the dump but i really like the soldier fly larvae for chickens. Good question and you are right to some degree, cat poop is worse, dog poop is compostable. just takes time like humanure.

Compost from dog poop is not recommended to use with food crops because of the pathogen issue. There are ways to do it if you get the compost hot enough for a certain length of time and let it cure for about a year. You can look up how to use human waste as compost (humanure) to see the details. Compost worms such as red wigglers can also convert dog or human waste into work castings, which are safe to use in the garden.

This is very interesting, thanks for sharing your story. One thing about the rabbit. How do you house her? Is she in that cage all day? You can easily keep her inside, free roam, and where she can poop in a litter box. You can still collect her poop and dump her waste in the yard. As for her eating the weeds, maybe you can pull it out and give it to her? I know it is not as effective, but she should have free range inside and not walk on wire all day (it can hurt her paws and create sores). I of course do not know the set up of her the bunny entirely, but just making suggestions. She looks like such a sweet girl and these domesticated bunnies are not recommended to be outside given they are prey animals and can get scared easily or killed.I hope you are not raising them as meat. Poor buns.

Ver interesting & informative. The chicken manure is a very effective fertilizer. I have seen, some plants using this manure fertilizers, & they do grow healthy.. I raise some rabbits before. Great ways, to get fertilizers from there manures. Thanks for sharing.

That is some great info. I also have rescue pit bulls (four of them), and they produce lots of poop. I was throwing it away, and always wondering if there is a better way. I will start to compost it now.

Once you let it sit for a year, is it safe to use in a vegetable garden or should it only be used for non edible plants/trees?

How do you keep the dogs from messing with rabbits/chickens? We have 2 pitties, 1 I'm not worried about, the other... she's .. Willful. We want to set this type system up, but don't want problems from the dogs.

Question about your rabbit cage.... I have one and am getting a rabbit soon. How did you secure the tray so it stays in place?
@PermacultureHomestead
4 жыл бұрын
its an old dog kennel so the tray was the bottom of the cage, i just flipped it upside down so the bottom is now the top, the tray stays in place like most kennels.

@@PermacultureHomestead wouldn' t toxoplasmosis die off in the composting stage?
@clairemcconway6266
4 жыл бұрын
@@PermacultureHomestead It's not that simple. Indoor cats don't carry it, because they catch it from hunting wild animal carriers. And if the compost is managed so it is hot, or left to sit for long enough, it won't be in the compost. The other factor to consider is that most soil already has the oocysts in it, from wildlife and cats historically pooping there. And finally, linked to this is that most people who garden have already been exposed to toxoplasma - and if your cats have it, you will already have been exposed - and you cannot catch it twice. I compost my cats' poop and it works very well.
