Dear Jousef, can you please estimate how much do you safe when you use simulation compared to a prototype for example in the Automotive industry? Many say the estimations are very good but you still need a prodotype. Can you have less volumes of prototypes then or do you safe a complete phase of hardware? How much is a computing hour or how much does such software cost? I read you need 278.000 hours in simulation for example.

Awesome video. I'm a big fan of these, as well as the podcast. Just a comment... FEM is totally relevant in CFD, and I would even argue that it is now the standard. Many people tend to create a false dichotomy between CFD and FEM, which doesn't really make sense. FVM is actually a special case of the FEM, in particular it is an FEM with cell-constant test functions. This is also true for FDM, where test functions are Dirac deltas. Anyway, love the channel!

By using transport theory of species through fluids. In that - i) Mass conservation equation as per your dimensions. ii) Momentum conservation equation (To study its velocity & streamline patterns, effects of pressure differences, buoyancy forces if required, etc.) iii) Species transport equation which strongly coupled with mass conservation equation. iv) Energy equation - This is optional if your requirements in design involves heat transfer effects like natural convection of air particles or if external source of energy used like fans or blowers to move forcefully the air in room for maintaining its quality. v) Physics of saturated or unsaturated fluids & its thermodynamics aspects should be the primary requirement that how governing equations as mentioned above are involved in actual process of simulation. vi) Boundary conditions like temperature, pressure or velocities, contaminant or impurity concentration variations should be specified in the problem statement. vii) Study basic meshing techniques like hard or soft, fine or coarse, its geometries like tetrahedral or hexagonal, etc. viii)Choose steady state or transient solver with proper time steps & convergence criteria as per availability in software. If you wants final air quality status throughout the room then you can perform the steady state analysis. If you wants the status of complete process under some time frame then choose transient solver. ix) Can choose proper flow models like laminar or turbulent. Laminar models are preferred for very low air velocity flows otherwise, choose turbulent. In turbulent, there are many commercially available models like k-epsilon, k-omega, omega-SST, Algebraic y+, LES, or any other, etc. Read some of the research papers on simulation of air quality in buildings or a room. This will give you more insights.

I could do a tutorial on the convection-diffusion equation which was planned anyway but not for this particular application. The goal would be to interpret the so called Péclet number for stability purposes. Not sure if that helps.

Going on slowly in the background. I though I’d rather have a „documentary“ kind of intro to turbulence and also cover beginner questions than to have a huge series. Ich bin eigentlich aus einem anderen Gebiet hier und verstehe ein paar Zusammenhänge zwischen verschiedenen Begriffen noch nicht, kannst du mir vielleicht weiterhelfen? Stimmt es, dass FEM eine Methode für CFD ist? Mich hat hier nur die Tabelle am Ende mit den Boundary Conditions etwas verwirrt, weil CFD und FEM ihre eigenen Spalten haben. Und weißt du vielleicht wo man die Methoden Lattice Boltzmann, Galerkin, Inverse Boundary und Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian einordnen kann und vor allem in welchem Schritt von CFD/FEM diese vorkommen? Sorry für den langen Comment, eine kurze Antwort wäre mehr als genug :D

Hey! Man kann den Ansatz der FEM auch für CFD Probleme verwenden aber das sind erstmal von Grund auf verschiedene Gebiete die aber auf ähnlichen Ideen beruhen und zwar bspw. der Diskretisierung einer Domäne in kleine Teile, über diese Elemente werden dann Annahmen getroffen und geschaut ab wann sich eventuell eine Zustandsgröße wie der Druck oder die Spannung nicht ändert? Tut sie das nicht? Ok dann gibts weitere Iterationen die es durchzuführen gibt was uns zum Gebiet der Konvergenzstudien bringt. Galerkin Ansätze oder den Ansatz findet man in beiden Gebieten, findet man durch be schnelle Google Suche heraus. Zu Lattice Boltzmann muss ich sowieso mal ein Video machen :D Hoffe ich konnte dir in irgendeiner Form weiterhelfen ;)

Hi, i am having hard time even visualizing and starting to think about following problem: Consider a rigid body (with a mass "M" and interia tensor "I") which is completely submerged in a Fluid of constant viscosity "v" and constant density "d" at rest in a container (Boundary value problem). Now consider the fluid is disturbed by some external force "F" at a point "P" inside the container. How to calculate how much of the original force "F" acted upon that RigidBody and what are the components of that force on that rigid body. Can you help ? Thanks.

Danke 😅 find mein Englisch super normal, angefangen hat alles mit zocken wie bspw Dota oder Counter Strike in Clans, sprich man war gezwungen englisch zu sprechen. Very nice video! A computational approach for partial differential equations is using radial basis functions rather than a volume mesh.The solution is represented as a linear combination of functions which are non-zero over a limited domain. The matrix equation then has large non-zero terms near the diagonal so the matrix is likely stable and amenable to algorithms for inversion. No need to determine a volume mesh over all of space other than at boundary. Is there a reason why this is not done for fluid dynamics? I am familiar with the mathematics but new to computational fluid dynamics. Another question, what about Monte Carlo method methods as a solution i.e. a fluid particles with drift and Brownian motion? Thanks.

Awesome video. This is a game changer. It seems more like a knuckle ball than a banana ball. A banana ball (soccer) is a curve ball (baseball). Knuckle balls move because air flow around the bal changes from laminar to turbulent unpredictably. Would be cool to see a CFD model show the flow around an Evans punt. All I could find online is flow around a soccer ball punt.
