My comment was based on the fact that if hub means center or middle, in common tounge, then is he talking center of the blades on the central column, or the center of the framework on the one side that the fan is usually screwed or glued to...

Just a couple observations. Positive and negative pressure are a result of resistance, not more air going in or out of the case. Also, I don’t understand what you mean by saying CPU and GPU fans act like exhausts. They simply move heat from the components to the surrounding air which (hopefully) is evacuated from the case and replaced with cooler air.

Both systems will very quickly reach a steady state where there is just as much air flowing into the case as is flowing out. Higher pressure inside means more air molecules to carry heat away. Less dust will depend on having filters at air ingress points--you usually have an easier time filtering a positive pressure system.

Good vid, best in this area. Only thing I'd add for those who didn't quite get the direction of air thru a fan, usually (about 90% or more) the part of the fan that has the UL, voltage info is the EXHAUST side (i.e. air will be coming out that side). Air will be sucked in on the opposite side. A lot of fans, even the pricey ones, don't always have arrows indicating which way the air flows.

Air is transparent not invisible, no? Invisible means that light does not interact at all with the object so there is no way of determining where the object is, but transparent means that light can pass through but can be refracted by changes in refractive index, and light does get refracted by transitioning into air, like if you shone a light underwater, it would be refracted at the surface, being slightly bent.

What if you have your exhaust fans spinning slower than your intake fans, especially when you have more exhaust fans than intake fans? What would that cause as far as dust and thermals goes?
@dominickyoung5333
8 жыл бұрын
Spinning speed (AKA RPM) is almost irrelevant. Airflow of the fans is what matters, so it depends on the fans. Number of intake/exhaust fans would also be required to answer this. If the exhaust are stock fans which came with the case and only flow 30CFM, but the intake fans are good aftermarket fans which flow 50-90CFM each... So anybody who could help you would need more info than what you stated. I'm guessing you think you have 3 exhaust & 2 intake? 1 rear exhaust & 2 top? Are the 2 intake both at the front? Do you also have a side intake, or are you using the side as your 3rd exhaust (supposed to be an intake to directly help cool your GPU, by the way)? Also, what is your goal? This video perfectly proved what I have told people for years. If you want better cooling, you want a negative pressure. If you want to clean your PC less frequently by keeping dust out better, then you want positive pressure. So which would you prefer? I'm guessing you want positive pressure, based on your question. So if you are using your side intake fan as an exhaust fan, make it an intake fan. Anything beyond that will require the info I said above.
@daviddebroux4708
8 жыл бұрын
I guess my question was rather simple in comparison to specific situations, but yeah, that was mainly the question was if you had more fans pushing out less air than the fewer fans pushing in more air, what would the result be? If you have to probe me about what my situation is, my computer is set up so I have two 140mm fans on the front (the bottom is a SP fan where the hard drive cage is) as intake fans, three 140mm fans on top acting as exhaust (though I intend them to not spin as fast, therefore not always blowing out so much air), a rear 120mm fan as an obvious exhaust, and another 120mm fan on the bottom acting as an intake fan, so it sort of implements convectional cooling. All of these are Corsair case fans, and all but the latter SP fan I mentioned just for the hard drive cage are air flow case fans, all plugged into a manual fan controller; there are seven case fans in total, and one out of the seven is a static pressure fan. I use the fan controller so I can independently control all of the case fans, which a few are being controlled in pairs by fan splitter cables I also bought in conjunction with it, so the front intake, the first two on the top, and then the last two from top to rear are independently controlled in pairs, whereas the bottom intake fan is the only one that is actually independently controlled by the fan controller, possibly giving all the power in one cable vs. a splitter cable, which the bottom one would be louder than the last pair of fans (rear top and rear exhaust). For case reference: I am using a Thermaltake Core V41 ATX Mid-tower case. (Ironically, it is very tall and wide for a typical Mid-tower case, primarily designed to be very liquid cooling friendly.) What would _you_ say on the matter, with all of that being said?
@Ephem13
7 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are shooting for positive pressure the hard way, it doesn't have to be that complicated. I would of opted for just keeping one more intake fan than exhaust. I also always scrap stock fans and go for nice SP fans to simplify things.

Its best to have slightly more intake fans than exhaust fans. This is because intake fans have to work harder because of the dust filter. You want to keep the air pressure slightly positive so only filtered air can flow in the case

I'd love to see the airflow on the DIYPC Vanguard series. I don't remember which version is which, but they've been notorious for having bad airflow. The V8 seems to have fixed this though, because I can actually feel the air being pulled through the front, and there's an optional intake/exhaust on the top, if you want to mount fans up there. I'm just really curious because I have the V8, and I haven't had any overheating yet. But I haven't really pushed my hardware to the limit - it's kind of hard to say if the case is actually good or not. I just don't see people talking about later versions because DIYPC seems to have gotten a bad reputation.

Great review, question i have a Thermaltake x71 with 3 fans on top pulling air in, 3 on front pulling air in, push pull radiator pushing out in the back and 3 on the lower left side pushing out, would that be considered neutral?

I would really like to see the Sharkoon VS4-S PC Case, because you cannot install a fan at the top of the case. I really like the case, but i am scared that the airflow isn't good

my current setup is in neutral, I guess. I have 4 intake fans (2 at the side and 2 at the bottom) and 3 exhaust fans (1 at the back and 2 at the top, AIO). My current GPU temp is around 36 to 40c, while the CPU temp is 38 to 42c. I am thinking to change it to negative air pressure so my system will run more cooler than my current build. The reason I want it more cooler because we don't have an AC at home and sometimes the weather here is usually hot.

Hi. I recently bought my first PC and it's great. I've got 6 fans (3 intakes and 3 exhausts) temperature wise it's good but theres some dust staring to build up. Should I change my top 2 fans to intake to have 5 intake and 1 exhaust?

So you have more air coming into the case than leaving? When does it blow up? And more air leaving than coming into the case? When does the case crumple under the induced vacuum? The reality is the air pressure reaches some point of equilibrium with exactly the same amount of air entering as leaving.

he means more air being pushed in or out of the case by fans. more air being pushed in by fans then pulled out by fans means there is a slightly higher air pressure inside your case then outside it and all the air not being pushed out by the exhaust fan(s) is escaping out of all the holes and cracks in the case keeping unfiltered dusty air from entering your case through those holes. BTW this is how clean rooms and hermetically sealed rooms work (as well as nuclear bunkers designed to keep out radioactive dust). They have filters that clean the air inside the room but they also maintain the air pressure in the room ever so slightly higher then the air pressure outside the room to stop anything outside from leaking in. Basically the thought is if you cant make something 100% airtight and you have a leak then its better to keep the air pressure higher that way the leak is leaking OUT fresh air instead of leaking IN unfiltered air.

Hi guys! I have the EVGA Z97 Classified motherboard and Cryorig R1 Universal CPU Cooler! I finished building my setup about a week ago, and it seems really fine, so far (I have not received the opportunity to test it due to the fact that I have school work)! I tried mounting the R1 Universal towards the back and the top of the case because I know that it acts as an exhaust fan; however, I can only mount it towards the front of the fan where the intakes blow! I know that is bad, but I want your honest opinions on how bad you think it will be in the long run! Thanks guys! +NCIX Tech Tips

Fyi some gpu have design that it sucks air from the back of the case and throw the hot hair to the front case so make sure the second and third fan in your pc case throw air outside instead of taken air inside because the air flow will disrupted and stuck inside the case For example i'm using galax 3050 single fan, it takes air from the back case/gpu where it have hdmi/dp slot and throw it to the other side (the front case) so i arrange my fan as follow First fan at the top take fresh air for the cpu (using stock cooler) and on the back i have exhaust fan just beside the cpu On 2nd fan below first fan it become exhaust now because the hot hair from gpu is throw near the front of the pc case (middle lower of the case near the front)

You should do this as series for testing various case fan setups using fog, you can even start with mine, a phantom 820

When you can't balance between two, go for High pressure setting. 1. Intake is what actually cools the pc down. Cool air comes in and collects heat energy therefore cooling the system. All what exhaust does is preventing hot air being stuck inside the case. By creating high-pressure inside the case, the hot air will naturally exit the case so the exhaust fans are not the priority. 2. Negative pressure means that the pc becomes a vacuum. Air carries the heat energy. Vacuum means no air to carry heat energy outside. Temperature will keep rising and rising. 3. Most importantly *fans are useless in low pressure* . Think of helicopter or drone in vacuum chamber. Even if the blades go full speed, it won't take off. Because there's no air. Same applies to pc coolers. It's stupid to make low-pressure for cooling. The answer is very clear

The vacuum created is negligible! "3. Most importantly fans are useless in low pressure . Think of helicopter or drone in vacuum chamber. Even if the blades go full speed, it won't take off. So here's my fan setup: 2 intake at the front, one exhaust at the back, and two on the CPU cooler (Noctua NH-D14). He mentioned the cooler fans being exhaust as well, so does that mean I have negative airflow with more fans acting as exhaust than intake?

NZXT Phantom 530. So far have 3 Intake fans ( Side panel 140mm, Internal Cage 140mm, and Front 200mm) and 1, soon to be two, Exhaust fan rear 140mm. Going to install 1 140mm to the top.

I would love to see some videos on possible fan configurations for the BeQuiet Dark Base Pro 900. The case is a Beast that can hold 9x140mm +2x120mm case fans. I have my rig setup with front mounted radiator with 2 fans, 1 fan at the front/bottom of the case, 2 up top and 1 at the back. GPU has Internal exhaust. Would love any suggestions, comments or even questions!

I got 4 140mm intakes running at 7v and two quiet 120mm fans running full blast on my H100 acting as the only exhaust out the top. Well my GPU is a blower style so that is exhausting as well. Almost no dust since all intakes are filtered and the temps are fine. So Positive works just fine for me.

devilmikey00 also helps with cooling the rads since they are exhaust. it overcomes the restriction more easily. basically like push pull light. looks like a good setup.

if your cpu cooler has a side mounted fan, i suggest angling it so that it blows out through a vent or something, so it not only cools the cpu, it also blows out heat from other components

im using a regular atx body i think...two small fans on the side panel blowing out ....one on the bottom blowing in...and then the one at the back blowing out...plus i removed a front panel on the tower where the disk drive goes ...made a huge difference....also i put this tower on its side so the mobo lays flat with the floor...my idle temps are between 26c to 33c all round and then gaming would be around 55c to 65c

negative pressure can also creatte turbulence and dead spots. especially in the top right area of the mb and hdds which might be mounted in that region. also then running negative pressure with your computers back placed close to a wall your system will suck in hot air from your cpu thru the pci covers which can really suck for your graphics card. if you push your cooling to the absolute max you will use a watrecooling loop to dransport the heat out of the system and mount a big radiator + strong fan inside a metalduct that has the exact size of the rad and arange it in a way that it moves the air upwards and is not obstructed. this way your radiator fans can build up a optimal pressure gradient and the hot exaust wont be pulled in again.

I have a THERMALTAKE VL80001W2Z Black edition computer case. Could you show me how you would go about generating positive air pressure in this particular case? I have a stock fan for my CPU, which I will use. My GPU is the MSI N750TI-2GD5/OC. I also have a standard 120mm fan on my Corsair CX600M PSU.

Would be nice to see this test being ran on CoolerMaster Mastercase MC600P. Currently building my new rig and I'm trying to decide if both top fans should be for exhaust, or perhaps the one closer to the front should be intake as well as the three fans on the front, leaving the exhaust for the top-back fan and the back fan. Also, I'm using the CoolerMaster Masterair MA610P CPU cooler. Any advice is welcome.

Positive airflow seems great- I took apart a dead laptop today (both for hands on experience and salvage) and the motherboard was completely caked in dust, which is probably why it stopped working within 3 years. ...Also the HDD was from Seagate. So yeah.

Awesome vid! Probably the best I've seen here at illustrating these principles. I've never seen any of them using a fog machine, so that was a nice touch. HERE is what I want: I just ordered a Corsair Crystal Series 570X RGB. Seeing as it's literally ALL glass sides and top, this would look cool af for the fog machine (with snazzy RGB fans so you can turn the lights off for da smoke)! So do a Shia and DO IT! :)

So here is my question. I have a front fan intake, a rear exhaust fan, 2 fans on my Hyper 212 Evo running a push pull method, pushing air through the fins and out the top of the case and a single side panel fan pulling air in. Is that a good airflow setup?
